If you’re not mindful about eating, it’s easy to overdo it on dried fruits which pack in a ton of concentrated sugar or paleo bliss balls. These things have their time and place, and they’re certainly better for you than regular sweet treats. Alas, they’re not doing much for your weight loss goals in the long-run. Think about how much you’re snacking and try to cut back by filling up on healthy, nutrient-dense foods during meal times. Save the treats for special occasions instead of making them an everyday habit.

For the past three years my friends and family in New York have told me that I need to “do something” about my weight. So before I got to New York I passed around my approved list of foods to all of them via Facebook, and gave them full permission to do whatever necessary to stop me from cheating.

Switching to a 100% Paleo Diet after years of eating bad carbs is a recipe for disaster and you giving up immediately!  Instead, try finding a way to implement a change or two along the way until you start to see those results.

If you don’t like the taste of water try some of my metabolism boosting Fruit Infused Water Recipes. They are a great way to enjoy a sweet treat while doing something good for your body. Just be sure to stay away from the squirt bottles and flavor packets that many people add to their water – they are full of artificial sweeteners that can make you gain weight.

I am 54 and on my 2nd week of Paleo which I adopted to feel better and eat healthfully. I have struggled with losing 10 lbs for the past 6 years after trying EVERYTHING. 3 lbs would come off, 4 would go back on. I would find myself thinking about food all the time and sticking to a weight loss plan was suddenly so hard at this age. I’m not yet menopausal. Since going Paleo, I am never hungry anymore, have tons of energy, enjoy my food AND dropped 4 lbs. I can no longer imagine eating any other way. No breads, rice, pasta, potatoes, legumes, peanuts, refined sugars, bad oils, dairy, fake sugars. Lots of lean protein at every meal, variety of veggies, and occasional fruit. Nuts for snacking plus Chia seeds. I eat when I’m hungry and skip when I’m not. To lose more weight I will cut my portions a bit and start exercising. Also, I’ll try to move more throughout the day. My biggest rave is that I’d forgotten how much I enjoy real food (as opposed to processed, fast, or prepared.) With so many vegetables to choose from, cooked or raw, and yummy protein options, every meal is a guilt free adventure. Lol.

2. The pizza is from Pizza My Heart, based here in Nor-Cal (http://www.pizzamyheart.com/). It’s wonderful. Most small independent pizzerias should be able to help you customize a pizza, and you can always have chicken strips at home that you add on top for the finishing touch. Frozen chicken breasts from Safeway can be microwaved and cut in a matter of a few minutes.

[…] When fulfilling our body’s natural hunger cravings, many turn to carbohydrates and processed foods to satisfy their appetite. Recent diet trends, however, have aimed their meal plans towards simpler, less processed foods. A specific diet that has attracted much interest is the Paleolithic diet, which is also commonly referred to as the Paleo Diet. […]

I agree… Its nothing but a jumpstart to motivate you to lose weight and keep going…and trust me… 10 pounds in a week was alot of motivation for me. I did the cabbage soup diet. They are all the same. But i do it for a week then off for two weeks… Maintaining well!!!

“You’re on Paleo Magazine Online‘s site, so ditching grains, refined sugar, seed oils, and other forms of junk food isn’t a revolutionary concept that bears repeating. You’re already doing all that, and it’s usually enough to kickstart the weight loss. Another piece of low-hanging fruit is tailoring your carbohydrate intake to your activity levels. Eating too many — or too few — carbohydrates for your exercise habits stall weight loss. Furthermore, the overweight tend to be insulin resistant, and lower-carb, higher-fat approaches work better for this population (although a rare phenotype of obese and insulin-sensitive does exist for whom higher-carb, calorie-restricted diets produce more weight loss than ad libitum low-carb). Again, pretty standard approach. If that doesn’t work? If you want to lose weight while being Paleo, the simplest, most effective way I’ve found is to shoot for the minimum effective dose of food. If you want to consume the RDI of magnesium, you can either eat 2.5 cups of soybeans — a whopping 900 calories, give or take — or you can eat a pound of frozen spinach — a paltry 140 calories, plus a hundred or so more for any added fat. Trying to get more zinc? You can eat a cup of pumpkin seeds and reach 70% of the RDI with 747 calories, or you can eat a couple medium-sized oysters and hit 111% of the RDI with just 80 calories. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not disparaging pumpkin seeds, or any other food. You can and should eat them. But you should focus on the most nutrient-dense, calorie sparse foods.”

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins – End the day’s eating with these muffins and you’ll avoid any late night trips to the fridge. When chocolate chip muffins are part of a diet plan, it shifts the focus from “What will I be forced to eat next?” to “What amazing thing am I going to get to eat next?”. That’s a seismic shift that means the difference between success and failure.

Looking back, I think problems started when I was around 9 years old. That was the year I put on a couple of pounds and my eyesight started deteriorating. We didn’t think anything of it at the time as my dad also needed glasses, but after reading Loren Cordain’s work, I found out that nearsightedness in childhood can be caused by insulin resistance. My eyesight has actually improved since going Primal.

I have been looking for a healthy way of eating after finally coming to terms with sudden weight gain. I have gained 27lbs within the last 2 years, (from 138 to 165) and frankly, I would rather lose it than buy new clothing. I went o the gym 5 days a week for 3 weeks with only a 2lb loss to show for it.

It takes more than two weeks to start seeing results. For me, by the two week mark, I was feeling more energetic, my skin was glowing, and I was sleeping better than I had in years…but the scale hadn’t budged. It’s essential to give your body time to adjust. I’ve been paleo ish (I say ‘ish’ because I work in the restaurant industry, so part of my job is tasting and developing new recipes, which makes being strict about it practically impossible) for two years, and I’ve never looked or felt better.

ACV can improve the body’s utilization of iron, a nutrient that acts like fire-starter for fuel. Iron is a key component in substances that carry oxygen to the cells and hold it there. It’s the ability of apple cider vinegar to increase iron utilization and energy consumption in the body that makes it such a supportive food for weight loss.

As in my above post its a very strict paleo diet.my typical day i have a protein shake with 1 tbls spoon of raw almonds bfast. and then lunch and dinner is a lean protein veggies steamed or salad (lettuce and tomatoes oil and vinegar ) and maybe sliced avocado. when im hungry ill eat only approved paleo food Ive cut out my apple daily as well. i sleep 10hours a day and work as a bartender witch is physical. no extra exercise.thanks Beverly

Any ideas that can help? Anyone else out there have that problem and find a solution? Will Paleo have an impact? Seems I can starve on diets or eat all I want of anything out there and I still weigh the same in the end. Makes it hard to be bothered anymore.

“Probiotics are ‘good’ bacteria that help your digestive system break down food, preventing the gastrointestinal issues that can keep you from having a flat stomach,” explains nutritionist Jonny Bowden, Ph.D., author of The Most Effective Natural Cures on Earth. To ensure your plumbing is working at optimum capacity, Bowden suggests eating a daily serving of a probiotic-rich food like yogurt, kimchi, miso, sauerkraut or buttermilk.

Unfortunately, this advice rarely works because the brain has powerful mechanisms for overriding our efforts to lose weight. If you consciously reduce the number of calories you eat, your body responds by lowering your metabolism to match your reduced intake. So as you purposefully eat less calories, your body finds ways to use less calories. All while ramping up hormones that raise your appetite and drive you to eat more at every meal to regain the fat you’ve lost.

Another challenge this week was going to my friend Dave’s wedding. I ate grilled vegetables for the appetizer, risotto for mains (okay, that was really bad) with a plate of chicken salad. And NO cake. I was proud.

Quick question. . . In the Emergency weight loss plan to lose 20 pounds in 3-4 weeks, while eating anything under 300 calories per meal. If this plan is only eating weight loss foods, will i lose weight faster with this plan than the energency plan??

Add low-fat milk to your morning cereal and you may have a belly-busting win. Diets high in calcium-containing foods have been linked with healthier body weight. Plus, the minerals found in dairy products — calcium, potassium and magnesium — can help to counterbalance bloat-inducing sodium.

Having a healthy breakfast supplies energy throughout the day and keeps you going. Although, in the sample diet plan we have suggested a breakfast of 2 rotis and paneer curry or brown bread upma or scrambled or boiled eggs and brown bread, there are several other breakfast ideas for losing weight that you can try out.

There are many different ratios of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats that are possible by following a Paleo diet and there is no single version of Paleo that will be ideal for every individual. Some amount of experimentation may be necessary in order to find the macronutrient combination that works best for your body and goals. Some people may discover that a low carbohydrate version of Paleo speeds weight loss, while the scale may not budge for others if carbohydrates fall too low, particularly if they are extremely active. Likewise, some people may not respond well to the inclusion of large amounts of energy dense foods in the diet, such as nuts or healthy oils. In order to find your ideal macronutrient combination, pay attention not only to the scale, but to how you feel overall. Monitor your energy levels throughout the day and before, during, and after workouts. Pay particular attention to how you feel after eating meals and any mood or energy changes that may occur. These insights can help you to determine if the macronutrient combination you are eating is working for you.
