Yes, you need your salt and your fat. Stephan suggests eating them separately. I suggest you get your salt from your home made bone broth that you have salted up, and get your fat from your unsalted kerrygold butter or coconut oil in your coffee, or a plain avocado. I also suggest doing what ever you have to do to get your vegetables to taste good enough to eat as long as you don’t go too crazy. I like dropping them into the broth, salting them up after steaming, or putting spinach in the vitamix with some frozen berries and water and enjoy a smoothie.
If you’ve been diagnosed with Celiac, have you tried the Specific Carbohydrate diet? You might find that diet designed more for your particular body issues than anything else. There are some great websites that address this issue.

(2) Everything is worth trying. The retention of weight is mostly attributed to diet, so if a given person has “tried everything else” and they haven’t found lasting results, then perhaps reforming their tastes is the most viable, or even the only, solution. In other words, they may not like certain foods on the Paleo menu, but if they are truly dedicated to losing weight and are seriously considering the Paleo approach, they may need to challenge themselves to develop a taste for the staple foods that make this approach successful (if they physiologically cannot tolerate certain foods, that is a different story). It’s a cost-benefit exercise weighing their quality of life overall against the foods they enjoy eating which may be inhibiting their progress.
Bread, cereal, pasta, fried food, rice, bagels, doughnuts, waffles, chips, tortillas, candy etc. – these things are all loaded with carbs (and if they’re processed – refined carbs and sugar), and I’ll bet a million Monopoly dollars they’re the cause of 99% of the population’s weight problem.
I’ve been primarily Paleo for over three years my allergies are much better (basically gone – they flair if I don’t eat as clean). I used Chris’s autoimmune protocol and in 6-12 months put my Hashimoto’s in “remission”…. it is autoimmune disease so I will have to manage it my entire life, but the antibodies are not present in my blood, nor have they been for over a year and a two years. I think if we look at this as “getting back to wellness” and NOT a diet, it is much more achievable. Gluten is a HUGE no-no for me, I have had (to my knowledge) none in 3.5 years and I no longer miss it (which, by the way, didn’t happen overnight!). Grains are rough stuff if not prepared really carefully (look to Westin Price literature if you want to still eat grains).
One piece of advice from health experts is to chew food carefully and slowly. That helps you increase the possibility of getting fit to more than 40 times. Chewing too fast can lead to the brain not receiving signals from the stomach that it is full. Therefore it cannot give the signal telling you to stop eating, making you overeat and gain weight.
Paleo changed a lot of things for me, even though I suffer from social pressure: why don’t you eat this and that? oh, poor thing you can’t have ice cream/ mc donald’s/ chips, whatever… and this is quite annoying: can’t people see that I’m A LOT healthier this way?…
I am not eating any Paleo treats, I’m not particularly stressed, exercise is so-so (like it has always been), and I definitely do not have unrealistic goals. I did try different types of exercise over a longer time period but it didn’t change anything. Over the course of months, I have not lost a simple oz! I don’t eat any fruit and a very minimum of nuts. Loads of veggies, eggs, organic meats. I find it close to impossible to figure out my right combination of micronutrients as I am numb to any effects of changing my diet. I don’t feel any different – I’m not happier, more satisfied, in better harmony with myself etc. – I just don’t feel anything no matter how hard I try. Any suggestions?
Carbohydrate tolerance is highly individual, and I’ve seen patients who do quite well on a very low carb diet, while others crash and burn. Usually, the biggest factor is the amount and intensity of exercise the person is doing, as many of my patients trying to lose weight are participating in high intensity training programs, such as Crossfit, or spending many hours at the local gym.
The Mediterranean diet, full of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, fish, nuts, poultry, eggs, and cheese and yogurt in moderation, is similar to DASH, but without the specific serving restrictions. Some studies show weight reduction while others are equivocal, but a Mediterranean diet is also thought to protect against diabetes and heart disease. It is also easy and even joyful to follow. Overall, the best-ranked diets are not too restrictive. So the Flexitarian diet – vegetarianism with the occasional addition of meat – scores more highly than a vegan diet. The WHOLE30 diet is ranked with the raw food diet as the least healthy – both are too restrictive to be the “best diet” for anyone.

Try this strategy to permanently reduce cravings: Portion out one serving of your favorite treat, taking a minute to smell it, look at it, and think about it. Take one small bite. When did you start noticing the weight loss? I’m on day 3 tomorrow and I’m still at the same weight. I did fry mushrooms onion asparagus broccoli colliflower and peppers tonight, no butter just Braggs seasoning which is like a soy sauce but not… and of course the soup.. it definitely filled me up because I forgot to eat the baked potato. I’m curious if I should only be eating raw vegetables though.. I can get creative to make it easier but maybe it shouldn’t be easy to get the results I want?
