I’ve been primarily Paleo for over three years and my allergies are much better (basically gone – they flair if I don’t eat as clean). I used Chris’s autoimmune protocol and in 6-12 months put my Hashimoto’s in “remission”…. it is autoimmune disease so I will have to manage it my entire life, but the antibodies are not present in my blood, nor have they been for over a year and a two years. I think if we look at this as “getting back to wellness” and NOT a diet, it is much more achievable. Gluten is a HUGE no-no for me, I have had (to my knowledge) none in 3.5 years and I no longer miss it (which, by the way, didn’t happen overnight!). Grains are rough stuff if not prepared really carefully (look to Westin Price literature if you want to still eat grains).
Slow Cooker Pot Roast – The slow cooker does the heavy lifting, and all you need to do is tolerate the delicious smells for a few hours. If you started the Paleo diet on a Monday this will be your Sunday dinner. Sunday roasts are popular in many places across the globe, and you may want to make this a tradition in your home as well. It brings the family together on a meal that is a proven crowd-pleaser.
I was in complete denial about having to change my lifestyle for Paleo… I have candida albicaans in the gut and causes me to retain weight & much more. I managed to lose 40 pounds on my own before being diagnosed & having bad flare-ups with candida. I haven’t been able to shed much more since then, and have about 40 to go! I found a website to give me my proper breakdowns (not this 1800 calorie/day stuff) because I teach anywhere between 7 – 10 fitness classes/week and on top of that I strength train at least twice a week enough to get my heart rate up and going! Now onto having 50g of carbohydrates, +/- 200g of protein & the rest fat… it’s going to be an adjustment over the next few weeks, but am sure the outcome will be good!
The next day I began the program. At first I thought it would be really difficult and that I would have to starve myself to see any progress. Boy was I wrong! I pretty much ate whatever I was eating before, but I made sure to eat it at the specific times when my metabolism was burning a thousand times faster than usual.
Energy Bars – Say goodbye to the post-lunch blahs with this energy bar that will help get you through the rest of your day with ease. It’s great for those days when you just don’t know where you’ll be when hunger hits. It’s super portable so you can have it while driving, even use it to power up before an after-work workout.
I forgot mention above^^: When I was on my old diet of having a cheat meal once a week, I did not have my period for about 7 months. Now that I am refeeding instead, my period has returned to normal.

The Keto diet is a god-send. I’ve been on and off for a year, and it works! Eating increased fats (healthy, mind you) and reduced carbs –no beans even– can harbor roughly 5-8lbs per week lost. Stick with roughly 20g or less a day. My lifts have greatly increased, too. Anyone looking to lose fat fast MUST try this. After reading this, I plan to apply the lift methods listed to see if I can increase my overall LBM while still dropping BF.
Joshua Resnick/ShutterstockIn a separate study the Cornell researchers discovered that the color of plates relative to the color of the food being served was also important. People who were served “matching” dinners (like red spaghetti sauce on a red plate) took 30 percent more food than people who had contrasting dinners (like red spaghetti sauce on a white plate). The researchers say it’s easier to see exactly how much food you’re taking when it doesn’t blend in to the plate.
Because the Paleo diet eliminates grains and refined sugars from your diet, you’re not going to be eating anything that isn’t densely packed with nutrients. The high quality protein you’ll be eating will stimulate muscle growth and balance out your blood sugar. The healthy fats will become your main fuel source instead of carbs, and the veggies and fruits are an invaluable source of nutrients, fiber and healthy carbs. None of these foods is fluffy.
