Calories obtained from fructose (found in sugary beverages such as soda and processed foods like doughnuts, muffins, and candy) are more likely to add to fat around your belly. Cutting back on sugary foods can mean a slimmer waistline as well as a lower risk of diabetes.
Cardio is the best, such as elliptical, tread mills, jumping jacks; anything that gets the heart rate up, which burns calories. After the cardio, your muscles are heated up, so move to weight lifting. If you’re at home with no weights, look in the cupboard for soup cans and use them as little weights. I have been trying the Paleo/Grain free way of eating now for a couple of weeks and haven’t lost but 2 lbs. I don’t know what I am doing wrong. I have lost some around my waist but the scale hasn’t really moved. I only need to lose 15-20 lbs….does the weight come off more slowly?
I am a mother of 2 and breastfed both my kids and I can understand how frustrating it is to face yourself in the mirror each day. But you have to remember that your priority right now is your baby’s health, your baby needs all the nutrients that he/she needs in order to be healthy and strong. Some experts argue that instead of dieting leading to long-term weight gain, the relationship goes in the other direction: People who are genetically prone to gain weight are more likely to diet. To test this idea, in a 2012 study, researchers followed over 4,000 twins aged 16 to 25. Dieters were more likely to gain weight than their non-dieting identical twins, suggesting that dieting does indeed increase weight gain even after accounting for genetic background. The difference in weight gain was even larger between fraternal twins, so dieters may also have a higher genetic tendency to gain. The study found that a single diet increased the odds of becoming overweight by a factor of two in men and three in women. Women who had gone on two or more diets during the study were five times as likely to become overweight.

Karen, thanks for your reply. I’m a little curious a to how you discovered that gut dysbiosis was the root cause of your problems? What type of treatment provider administered the fecal transplant – a medical doctor or ? Also, I’m wondering about the orange juice. I’m very against drinking your calories and normally consider it more beneficial to eat the whole fruit to also get the fibers – if you allow yourself to eat fruit at all.

We live way longer now” – I agree with you here, but only because you don’t have to deal with the dangers of living back then. Give those hunter-gatherers access to modern technology and medicine and I bet their lifespan would easily surpass ours.
But I’m not in top shape, and haven’t been able to get there for the past 3 years, my body fat % is increasing over past 3 years (age 41-44). Currently I’m looking to address the balance of gut bacteria and clearing elimination pathways to see if this helps me to burn off the stubborn extra 6 lbs of fat?
