Hi, Just bought your book yesterday and reading religiously . Love the information specially the way its written. I have a one question though According to your slow diet I I have to eliminating carbs. yes I’ll lose weight bu tdont I gain all the weight back when I am done dieting. I seen one of my co worker done the “no carb diet” lost weight magically in 5 month and gain back all the weight back(even gain more may be she look bloated most of the time ) . Please advise.

Staying motivated to lose weight can be tough, but it’s key to weight loss. When we skip a workout or overeat and use the dreaded words “I’ll start again on Monday” or “I’ll start again tomorrow” we are missing a great opportunity to learn and move on, to hit our reset buttons. I’ve heard it was more about eating too much fat with carbs is a problem (which it would be if you were eating a ton of nuts and seeds), but a surplus of just fat in the diet isn’t a problem and may even be helpful…provided, obviously, you are not consistantly eating more calories than you are burning, of course.

My concern exactly is the time issue. How are we supposed to prepare all of this food in a timely fashion? If you follow this plan how are you also supposed to have a normal work day? Do you think once we have the hang of it that the preparation would be easier?
I used to have a great figure without trying. But then I graduated (no more mandatory physical education), and moved out (no more Mom making me eat healthy. Now I’m getting a little squishy and I want to get back to the way I was. Maybe about 20 lbs. I’d be happy to lose even 10 lbs.
Successful weight loss isn’t about counting calories in your low-carb tortillas, or “earning” every indulgence with an hour of sweating it out on the treadmill. Trying to starve your body into submission without addressing your underlying metabolic problems and nutritional needs is ineffective and unnecessarily painful. The key to lasting weight loss is to work with your body, not against it, and address the underlying problem behind the weight gain. Then the weight should come off more or less painlessly, with a minimum of deliberate restriction and a maximum of delicious meals!
Vladimir, good recommendation. Turkey (or ostrich, if you can find it) is a great alternative. For those adventurous souls looking for lower-fat and high-protein red meat besides beef, I also recommend bison (American buffalo).
I’m not on the paleo diet but you may benefit by taking CLA. I would bet you will gain the muscle and body definition back with it. If it is working, you will gain weight in the beginning. Don’t mistake that gained weight for fat increase.
Be choosy about carbs. You can decide which ones you eat, and how much. Look for those that are low on the glycemic index (for instance, asparagus is lower on the glycemic index than a potato) or lower in carbs per serving than others. Sandy, try taking 5 to 10 grams of BCAAs 10-15 minutes prior to your walk. I take 10 grams before my workouts MWF, and before my sprints TT. Definitely helps. Downside, plain BCAA sups taste like crap, flavored is artificial (but no calorie). For more info, go to leangains dot com.

Your weight is a balancing act, and calories are part of that equation. Weight loss comes down to burning more calories than you take in. You can do that by reducing extra calories from food and beverages, and increasing calories burned through physical activity.
Don’t ever feel bad for having to take thyroid medication. Depending on what is going on with your thyroid, it may be entirely necessary. Diet may not be enough in many cases. Except paleo is not a diet but a lifestyle. And a very individual one too. My paleo is different from yours is different from his/hers. Diets inevitably fail on the long. No such threat on paleo. Paleo should be called the “Don’t eat foods that harm you, only eat foods that nourish your body and support your health” diet. Which ones are those? Nobody will give you a ready made free answer, because there is none. Everybody has to put in some effort and time to educate himself and find his answers. Or pay someone to guide if he can’t do it alone. There is no free lunch and no free health either. If it was that easy, we’d all be healthy and beautiful, right? No matter what the individual specifics of each person, most ill health and excess weight has a common cause – ignorance. The only way out is through self improvement and education. I’m curious to know how Intermittent Fasting can play a role with this, since you mentioned eating more in the morning, especially proteins? I would love to eat food in the morning but then I will eat just as much later on in the day. So I’ve been using IF especially to keep from eating at night.
I emailed Petronella, who replied with the warning that dressings contain sugar and that I should stay far away. But still I’m thinking, I’m being good because I’m eating a salad instead of the pizza or burger that I really want, how bad can a dressing actually be?
I have been on Paleo for 3 weeks now and I’ve only lost 4 pounds 🙁 I am spinning 3 times a week and doing boxfit 2 times a week. I still want to loose 26 pounds. Even though I feel better, I have to confess I’m a little bit desperate. Its been a very challenging lifestyle change and I’ve lost just a few pounds. I don’t know if I should limit my Paleo Desserts (I have 1 or 2 snacks a day) or eliminate them completely. HELP!
