I am also frustrated by weight gain, about 30 lbs. In 3 years! I am 50 yrs. old and at my highest weight EVER! I’ve seen many people at my gym lean out & get ripped eating paleo. I have tried low carb, higher carb, nothing helps. I even worked with a holistic nutrition coach for a month & lost a whopping 3 lbs. She had me eating no grains, sugar, (except for limited fruit), no eggs, nuts/seeds, nightshades, no dairy. It took 2 weeks before I lost ANYTHING. I was diagnosed with celiac 4 years ago. It’s been a steady gain ever since.
Regardless of whether or not grains should be vilified, I love this diet because I know it WORKS. I know people that have lost incredible amounts of weight and changed their lives within a matter of months.
All of this sounds intruiging, but what about substiuting the bread for a corn or flower tortilla, making a wrap or a buritto or sorts, and eat with tomato based salsa? I do not know about you, but A diet with tortillas and salsa could never get boring.
The Mediterranean diet emphasizes eating good fats and good carbs along with large quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, fish, and olive oil—and only modest amounts of meat and cheese. The Mediterranean diet is more than just about food, though. Regular physical activity and sharing meals with others are also major components.
This does work. The only reason I gained it back was because of an injury to my back. I’m back on it, already down 5 pounds in 5 days. If you follow the diet and don’t cheat and don’t binge on the days off, you will lose it and keep it off. – 9/4/15
When dining out and ordering fish, request that your fish not be salted or basted in calorie-dense ingredients like olive oil and butter. Healthier cooking options include steaming, broiling, or grilling.
During the first days of your fast, you may feel hungry and grumpy. You may also get constipated. And you won’t have the energy to do much, physically. Drink lots of water and take a daily multivitamin. You should also tell your doctor, especially if you take medications that will probably need to be adjusted.
Sandwich of fresh roasted turkey breast (3½ to 4 ounces) with 2 slices of low-sodium, whole-grain bread with assorted veggies, like baby greens and sliced tomatoes. Smear the bread with 1 tablespoon of low-sodium stone-ground mustard.
Potassium, magnesium, and calcium can help to serve as a counter-balance for sodium. Foods that are rich in potassium include leafy greens, most “orange” foods (oranges, sweet potatoes, carrots, melon) bananas, tomatoes, and cruciferous veggies — especially cauliflower. Low-fat dairy, plus nuts, and seeds can also help give you a bloat-busting boost. They’ve also been linked to a whole host of additional health benefits, such as lowering blood pressure, controlling blood sugar, and reducing risk of chronic disease overall.
If things start to slow down, just wait! A healthy rate of loss ranges from 0.5 lbs to 2 lbs per week, so anywhere in this set is normal and awesome. It’s no small feat to lose just a little weight, because when you put that into perspective over time… numbers add up. And remember, slow weight loss = more permanent weight loss.
Go easy on the starches: If your Paleo prescription includes starchy veggies, remember to eat them in moderation. Similarly to sugars, they’re digested relatively quickly and a greater impact on blood sugar and insulin than other foods on the Paleo diet.
I dont look at weight, or even a scale. I look at how my clothes fit, how I have energy and how I have returned to being human – I didnt know what that meant until I went Paleo. I started thinking for myself and accepting that my thoughts were never going to be in line with the large food conglomerates who have poisoned our notion of what “good” food is. I am happy! So, let me leave you with my current thought: Processed Food: Its like second hand smoke for all the other organs of your body.
I love my carbs, but could probably give them up if egg whites and chicken are involved. However, I hate vegetables, making the rest of the diet tough. Are there any other “normal”/non-veggie foods that could be successfully integrated into the diet?

if you can’t lose weight and you’re “watching” what you eat, the most obvious reason for your condition is that you’re reactive to certain foods. Either allergic or sensitive (two different things). If that’s your case, you have to learn how to identify those offenders and eliminate them from your diet. But you can be reactive to a lot of foods and develop further reactive response as you go. Most of your body fat is “false” fat, which is fluid.
If you don’t like the taste, try mixing it with something that overpowers it. I like to mix ACV with Organifi superfood powder (http://www.greenpowderdrink.com) which is also really good for weight loss. When you give your body what it needs, you’ll find that cravings go away and you’ll inadvertently lose weight.
