“losing weight after quitting diet soda -why aren’t i losing weight with diet and exercise”

Be careful of falling into the same trap I did. I started Paleo twice, both times stopping short of where I needed to be. I found out (now a few years later) that it was because I stopped eating enough carbs. if you limit carbs too much your body will adapt by storing what it can when it can. this was may problem so I would lose 20 lbs the first few months, stall then get frustrated. It took alot of research to figure out what I did wrong. Know what are good carbs and make sure your including them in the amount that reflects your lifestyle. My other problem was not getting myself checked out. I found out recently my food sensitivities (tomatoes and nightshade veggies, eggs, milk products, almonds to name the bog ones) were causing me to stay inflamed. My gut also needed to be healed so I need to take a probiotic (not yogurt because there not enough and too many people are sensitive) and enzymes to get my stomach rebooted. Find a good functional nutritionist who can help you figure it out. It certainly helped me, my journey to 10% body fat is restarted and not nearly as hard on my stomach (in terms of eating what I want)

So at first I did loose a lot of weight effortlessly when i went Paleo back 6 years ago. I got to my goal weight of 117 and stayed for a while, this year though, after to many “cheats” with popcorn, gluten free crackers, and chocolate a few months – 6-7 pounds have now creeped back on me, and it seems like no matter what it won’t budge. Following Paleo, no fruit, no sweeteners, no starchy veggies now, i have tried many different combos though, adding back in more starchy carbs and removing them further adding in more fat ect. I don’t understand why at first with Paleo my body responded right away with weight loss, now I that I regained some (I lost 40) it won’t budge! Is it possible our bodies become use to the Paleo and hence are not stacked into weight loss anymore when we stick to it? Is it possible I am to impatient? At first the weight flew off, I mean every week I lost 1-2 pounds.. now after 4 weeks no change on scale HELP.. annoyed 36 year old female.

Cardio is the best, such as elliptical, tread mills, jumping jacks; anything that gets the heart rate up, which burns calories. After the cardio, your muscles are heated up, so move to weight lifting. If you’re at home with no weights, look in the cupboard for soup cans and use them as little weights. Muscle weighs more than fat, but muscles burn calories faster than fat. This means that you may stand on the scale and think you’ve gained weight, but you will notice your clothes fit better. Consistency is the key. Get 6 to 8 hours sleep, and you’ll lose 2 pounds during the night.

Go for the Grain. By substituting whole grains for refined grains like white bread, cakes, cookies, and pretzels, you add much-needed fiber and will fill up faster so you’re more likely to eat a reasonable portion. Choose whole-wheat breads and pastas, brown rice, bran flakes, popcorn, and whole-rye crackers.

Been reading the work of various MDs such as Drs. Weil, Hotze, Smith and Hyman, and they cite some alarmingly high statistics about % of the population w/ poorly functioning (too low or too high) insulin, thyroid, testosterone, estrogen, etc.

At breakfast, go ahead and drink orange juice. But throughout the rest of the day, focus on water instead of juice or soda. The average American consumes an extra 245 calories a day from soft drinks. That’s nearly 90,000 calories a year—or 25 pounds! And research shows that despite the calories, sugary drinks don’t trigger a sense of fullness the way that food does. Find out how to tell if you drink too many of your calories.

Most people who go on “low” carbohydrate diets complain of low energy and quit, not because such diets can’t work, but because they consume insufficient calories. A 1/2 cup of rice is 300 calories, whereas a 1/2 cup of spinach is 15 calories! Vegetables are not calorically dense, so it is critical that you add legumes for caloric load.

If you’re out and ordering a sub, get the six-inch sandwich. Buy a small popcorn, a small salad, a small hamburger. Again, studies find we tend to eat what’s in front of us, even though we’d feel just as full on less. Try these portion-control tricks when you’re dishing your own food.

I started my journey just cutting carbs. I need to lose a lot of weight. Right now I need to lose 70 pounds to have knee surgery. My cousin recommended Paleo. I tried a modified version of it. The more I read and the more recipes I found here the less “modified” it became. When my doctor told me how proud he was of me yesterday I knew I’d made the right choice. I’m down 22 pounds. I’ve told my mom we are not on a diet it is a lifestyle change. She eats what I fix which is helping her with her weight. I feel better physically and mentally. The great thing is I’ve found recipes I can make and take to school with me including the energy bars. By talking about it on FB and at my physical therapy class, I’ve managed to get 2 other people to try out Paleo. So glad I found this.

It has been fun looking for and trying new recipes. I look forward to your emails because I know something yummy will soon be on our menu! I’m a very organized person and like to plan my menu for a month. It took awhile, but I now have a recipe binder filled with great paleo recipes. It makes meal planning a snap. I have always found that planning ahead eliminates that dreaded question “What’s for dinner?” Thank you for your website. And happy cooking to my paleo contemporaries out there!

Mast recommends asking yourself the following questions: “Why do you want to be healthier? What would that look like for you? Why is that important to you? How would you feel if you reached those goals? How would that impact the people you love and those who love you? When you get clear on the answers to those questions and continue to remind yourself of why you are getting healthier, it’s much easier to stay on track with making healthy choices on a consistent basis.”
