Most folks seems to miss Dr. Atkins’ point that you want to start out with a highly restrictive diet and move to include slow carbs in phases. The highly restrictive diet helps to eliminate your sugar/carb cravings and increase insulin sensitivity. It kind of tears you down and builds you back up in a healthy way. By the end of the diet, you’ll be eating lots of berries, nuts, beans, and other healthy carbs, once you are moving towards life-time maintenance mode. It also stresses whole foods and lots of vegetables.

I had tried another anti-depressant weight loss diet from “The Road Back” – their premise being that anti-depressants activate the “JNK” gene that makes weightloss difficult once activated. Even though the desserts made of coconut and almond flour are better options they should still just be a once in a while thing especially if he has no will power. Having too much of these treats can still hinder weight loss. If he’s good about focusing on the protein and veggies (and some good fats too!) that would be the way to go! Once he’s been off the ‘treats’ for a while it get easier to stay off them or only have them once in a while! Keep doing what you’re doing keeping the bad stuff out of the house and keep plenty of good healthy options around for when he needs a snack! Good luck!

You could also “make your own version” of the Paleo diet. If you don’t want to, don’t exclude grain products but try to limit processed foods like fake meats, pizzas, maybe white bread? Just bring more variation by adding more vegetables and fruits to your diet (eggs if you’re not vegan) and limiting added sugar, instead of limiting grain products. No one says you have to be 100% strict Paleo to see positive there’s a lot of people who don’t exclude dairy or beans from their Paleo diet

I haven’t missed the point. I understand paleo is a given. However, lean meat is not the solution. I really believe lowering food reward is key and addressing inflammation. Wild caught salmon is going to work a lot better than chicken breast. . I believe inflammation is interfering with the hypothalamus detecting leptin stores.

Exercise is simply a brisk walk for 45 to 60 minutes per day. Also golf once or twice a week. I am a 57 year old female who would like to lose another 21 pounds. My advice is to go easy and keep loving your body! It works hard for you. Good luck everyone!
