So far actually enjoying the diet. Need to know the minimum amount of food I can eat in the am. I have a lapband and mornings seem to be the most difficult time to eat. Even at lunch it seems that the veggies literally take up too much room, leaving less room in stomach for the proteins. If I take vitamins, how important are veggies at every single meal. At breakfast i do well to just get the volume of 1 egg down, no way I can get legumes and veggies down w/ the egg, lunch is a little better and dinner is usually good, volume wise. Any suggestions.

Yes, it’s been frustrating not losing as quick as I hoped….but I’m always hungry! I might have been eating too much with the nut flours and fruit smoothies….I’ll try to cut those out during the week at least. What is good to eat besides hard boiled eggs when you are hungry and need something quick and filling? Salads don’t fill me up and do a number on my digestive system if I have too much raw stuff! tks!

When I hear people say that they tried a diet and it did not work, I find that they tried it for a few weeks maybe a month. If I had done that, I would still be up over 300 pounds. Looking at what usually happens to people my age through their 40s, I would probably be around 350 pounds now and really unhealthy.
The Paleo diet is what got me really started with losing weight. Before that I couldn’t keep a diet for more than 2 weeks because I was soooo hungry. Nobody should be forced to live on 1500 calories a day, it’s hell! With the paleo diet I could finally stick with something. And that is really what losing weight is about. It doesn’t matter how many lbs you can lose in a week if you gain it right after (because you are too hungry and emotionally drained). A diet that make you lose one pound a month but is super easy to keep forever seems much more effective to me. Not to say that the Paleo is like that. Once my body had adapted to it, it went plenty fast.
In order to lose weight, you should eat every 2-3 hours so your body does not get hungry and start storing fat. If your body knows you will be eating every 2-3 hours it will stop storing fat as long as you are not taking in much fat. The water intake is good. Also, you should try to exercise at least 3-5 times per week. It sounds like from what I read that you are not taking in enough food and calories especially if you are breastfeeding. You may want to check with your doctor and find out how many calories you should be taking in when breastfeeding so the baby gets all the nutrients and you also will get the nutrients. If the baby takes everything, this could have an effect on your body especially your bones if you are not receiving enough calcium. Good luck!
With these revelations, if you are opting to lose* huge amount of weight and achieve your ideal body shape, do not opt for Paleo diet since it might not have effective results in your body. I tried ketosis once and it didn’t fit my body type. Here’s a blog post about my experiment with it and what a Paleo ketogenic diet might look like. According to my many commenters on my blog posts throughout my ketogenic experiment, I did it all wrong, but I tend to think that I would’ve died if I’d kept going. If you’re going to work out, don’t do anything extra from day 1 through day 4. You metabolism cannot sustain it because of the low calorie and protein intake. You’ll burn muscle rather than body fat. Implement cardio exercise from day 5 through 10 , after you’ve eaten your meat proteins.

We all have food habits. Tastes can be changed, though it may take time. It’s no use trying to argue that people “like” certain foods so it will be a “nightmare” to change. People often comment that to go suddenly from whole milk to nonfat – or vice versa – can be very unpleasant. But those same people describe the opposite experience once they get accustomed to other foods. Easy does it.
While I don’t think it’s necessary to restrict carbohydrates, I do think it’s important to match your carbohydrate intake to the amount of exercise you do. Not only can a mismatch stall your weight loss, but it can lead to instances of fatigue and muscle breakdown if you’re overexercising and not eating enough carbohydrate to match your activity level. I’ve had many patients who, in an effort to lose weight, ramp up their exercise and cut back on carbohydrate intake. Many even remove carbohydrates entirely, avoiding even small amounts of healthy choices like sweet potatoes and fruit. Unfortunately, this can often do more harm than good.
It’s very true that exercise preserves lean mass. This study tested the effects of exercise only (with no diet restrictions) on weight loss in overweight men and women. The researchers concluded that exercise could help reduce the loss of lean tissue by about 2.6 pounds in men and 1 pound in women. The problem is that 1 pound of muscle only burns about 7 calories per day. So that’s 7 extra calories for women, and 18.2 for men. Women can now eat an additional strawberry per day, and men can eat an additional one-half cup of broccoli. That’s nice if one strawberry is going to make or break your diet, but it isn’t terribly significant.
Being on a diet when surrounded by temptation in New York is tough, but so far it’s going well thanks to the support of my amazing friends. My friend Patricia gave me a beautiful new business suit that is a size smaller than my size right now. Andy points out many paleo recipes have alternate forms of sugar. Duh, meat and veggies are easy to cook/throw together following the rules and this males up the staples of our diet, but we don’t need more than a few recipes to figure it out.
While the recipes vary, most hummus is made from mashing up chickpeas, mixing in some tahini, and then adding lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste. The only real problem with hummus is that it’s made from chickpeas, as as we’ll soon see chickpeas are a no-go on Paleo.
