Most folks seems to miss Dr. Atkins’ point that you want to start out with a highly restrictive diet and move to include slow carbs in phases. The highly restrictive diet helps to eliminate your sugar/carb cravings and increase insulin sensitivity. It kind of tears you down and builds you back up in a healthy way. By the end of the diet, you’ll be eating lots of berries, nuts, beans, and other healthy carbs, once you are moving towards life-time maintenance mode. It also stresses whole foods and lots of vegetables.
Ideal body weight is just a rough guide. A more accurate gauge of ideal weight is body fat composition. Body fat norms vary by age and gender. At any age, a woman’s body is composed of more fat than a man’s.

My big question was regarding the big breakfast small dinner concept. I see a new study that points at a huge differential vs. the small breakfast big dinner. I have been on and off primarily due to vacations but am hitting it hard now. I notice that with the big breakfast that there is little to now desire for nighttime snacking.

I can’t really provide many suggestions without knowing what your daily intake of food looks like. It’s actually possible that you are under-eating and your body is holding on to the weight as a result. I know it sounds counter intuitive but that can often be the case. Make your own. It’s easy! From one 14-ounce can of no-salt-added cannelini beans, spoon out 2 tablespoons of beans. Puree the rest. In a medium nonstick pot, sauté 5 cloves of chopped garlic until translucent. Add 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth and 1 head of escarole, chopped, or a package of frozen chopped spinach. Simmer for about 15 minutes. Add pureed beans, red pepper flakes and black pepper, to taste, and cook 1 minute longer. Garnish with the beans you spooned out plus, if you desire, a little chopped red bell pepper. Refrigerate or freeze what you don’t eat for easy soup prep for a future lunch or dinner.
To test this idea rigorously, researchers could randomly assign people to worry about their weight, but that is hard to do. One program took the opposite approach, though, helping teenage girls who were unhappy with their bodies to become less concerned about their weight. I’ve been doing the pale I diet for 2 weeks now and I feel like my clothes are getting tighter even though I eat mostly greens, good protein sources, and I’ve cut back on sugar tremendously. I try to get less than 100g of carbs a day but I’m still not seeing any changes. I’m 135 lbs and 5’7. I’m skinny on top but my thighs and butt are my problem areas. I don’t know what to do :((
Focus on eating fresh produce, whole grains, lean protein, low-fat dairy and small amounts of healthy fats. Eat lower-calorie foods that are rich in fiber, protein and/or water to help you fill up and stay full longer.
Also, to add to what Gregory said, you may be using a lot more salt than normal, depending on how you used to eat verus how you are eating under paleo (or possibly a lot less potassium). Try monitoring your salt intake and rule that out; a good method is to put a daily recommended intake’s worth in a small bowl/ramkin/cup and only use that in al of your cooking and all of your seasoning for the day.
Get a pedometer. A pedometer will keep track of the number of steps you take during the day, and you can hide it on your hip so that no one can see it. A good pedometer will convert the number of steps taken into calories burned. They’re worth it!
