I’d love to see this work for me as I could continue knowing there’s a chet day each week but so far I’ve made a really dramatic change to my diet (I have a sweet tooth & love fruit, rice & pasta) but with no discernible results 😦

Eggs used for baking can be replaced by chia or flax seeds soaked in water. Just put a few days worth in the fridge and pull it out when you need it. For breakfast type recipes just sub out for any protein that works for you.

Sorry, but somebody had to say it. Even when following the Paleo diet, calories still count. The caveat, however, is that Paleo calories generally count less because they primarily come from whole, unprocessed foods. The reason for this is that whole foods require more energy to digest than their processed counterparts. for example, a stalk of celery. By the time you chew, swallow, digest and absorb it, you’ve actually expended more calories than the celery contains, meaning that it’s actually providing negative calories! By comparison, a Twinkie requires almost no energy to chew, digest or absorb, but if you were going strictly by the listed caloric content, you would think that a calorie from a Twinkie is the same as a calorie from celery. In other words, a calorie is not a calorie. What Paleo folks have to keep an eye out for are the Paleo “loopholes,” Paleo foods that are technically allowed, but are still calorie dense and easy to eat. To be sure, Paleo treat foods made with sugar from dates, honey and maple syrup, and fat from coconut oil or other nuts are certainly better options than Twinkies and Ding Dongs, but they are still treats. Save them for special occasions to avoid overloading on healthy but excessive calories.
Add a broth-based soup to your day and you’ll fill up on fewer calories. Think minestrone, tortilla soup, or Chinese won-ton. Soup’s especially handy at the beginning of a meal because it slows your eating and curbs your appetite. Start with a low-sodium broth or canned soup, add fresh or frozen vegetables and simmer. Beware of creamy soups, which can be high in fat and calories.
Funny enough, the most weight loss I ever experienced was when I switched off the “SAD” (standard american diet) to Macrobiotics–about 15 years ago–giving sugar and dairy–and meat–but focusing on lots of grains and legumes. It’s strange to me that with THAT diet, I shed 25 pounds in a few months without trying…and yet, with Paleo, Nothing.
It works the same way in reverse, too: gain too much weight, and your body starts burning more and feeling less hungry. But this begs the question: if all these set point mechanisms are so effective, how does anyone ever get fat in the first place?
If you’re using all that extra free time that these devices are affording you to take long walks, ride your bike, or in some way regularly exercise—great. But let’s be realistic: Most of us are spending those hours sitting in a car or slouched in front of a computer or TV.
