I am also frustrated by weight gain, about 30 lbs. In 3 years! I am 50 yrs. old and at my highest weight EVER! I’ve seen many people at my gym lean out & get ripped eating paleo. I have tried low carb, higher carb, nothing helps. I even worked with a holistic nutrition coach for a month & lost a whopping 3 lbs. She had me eating no grains, sugar, (except for limited fruit), no eggs, nuts/seeds, nightshades, no dairy. It took 2 weeks before I lost ANYTHING. I was diagnosed with celiac 4 years ago. It’s been a steady gain ever since.
Set a timer for 20 minutes and reinvent yourself as a slow eater. This is one of the top habits for slimming down without a complicated diet plan. Savor each bite and make them last until the bell chimes. Paced meals offer great pleasure from smaller portions and trigger the body’s fullness hormones. When you wolf your food down in a hurry, your stomach doesn’t have time to tell your brain it’s full. That leads to overeating.
Carbohydrates are the preferred form of fuel for your body’s energy needs. Simple or sugary carbs have their place when you need fast energy, but for the most part you should eat complex or slow-burning carbs (we’ll give you examples of these later). The thing about carbs, though, is that after you consume all the carbs your body needs for immediate energy, any excess carbs will be stored as body fat.
A different way of viewing weight loss identifies the problem as not one of consuming too many calories, but rather the way the body accumulates fat after consuming carbohydrates—in particular the role of the hormone insulin. When you eat a meal, carbohydrates from the food enter your bloodstream as glucose. In order to keep your blood sugar levels in check, your body always burns off this glucose before it burns off fat from a meal.
There is even an incredibly effective weight loss method called intermittent fasting, which involves deliberately going without food for extended periods of time (15-24 hours or more). You can read about that here.
i’ve been using it for about two and a half months now and i couldn’t be happier with the results. of course you gonna have to make some effort to maintain a strict diet and do alot of exercise, remember nothing falls from the sky, besides do exercise is good, and after a few weeks after your body starts to adapt to its new “habits” it all starts to go from a daunting task to a thing that makes you feel good, makes you feel lighter and then you start to see the results which are booster up by this amazing weight loss program, probably the best out there, at least that i’ve tried. i couldn’t believe it myself before i try it. and now after 2 and a half months with alot of dedication i’ve already lost 45 pounds, i’m getting my self-steam back again, gotta keep on going 🙂
6. Fruit, and fructose, are not good for fat-loss diets — period. Fructose is easily converted into fat after it spills over from the liver. I eat one organic orange before sleep to increase HDL cholesterol, but this is not for fat loss.
I have no consequences, I’m lean and fit and have plenty of energy for workouts. My complaint with the articles is that it claims Paleo is easy and natural for everybody and that is just not the case.
Ignorance simply means, lack of knowledge or information. Society sometimes changes the assumed definition of a word. I consider myself an intelligent person, with education in nutrition and food science, but I was ignorant to paleo before I learned about it. And there’s still more TO learn. So yes, ignorant is a fair assessment.

The one they don’t mention in the article is growth hormone. When you’re asleep your body produces growth hormone, which allows you to build muscle lose fat. If you don’t sleep, or if you don’t sleep well, then your body doesn’t produce as much growth hormone.
Try this strategy to permanently reduce cravings: Portion out one serving of your favorite treat, taking a minute to smell it, look at it, and think about it. Take one small bite. Chew slowly, moving it around your mouth and focusing on the texture and taste, then swallow. Ask yourself whether you want another bite or if that satisfied you. If you still want more, repeat, this time chewing the food 20 times. Continue this eating exercise for as long as you want or until you finish the serving (it should take about 10 minutes).
Celebs and doctors alike can’t stop talking about their go-to weight-loss secret: one of the keys to losing or preventing weight gain is getting enough sleep. Why? Turns out we end up eating more when we’re sleep-deprived. A recent study, for example, showed that participants who got only four hours of sleep ended up consuming 300 more calories than when they were well rested.
I’ve tried different diets to see what works best for me. It’s hard to do, to make yourself a science experiment. But what I feel is working best for me is to be very moderate with meat (and make sure it’s pasture raised, grass fed), somewhat moderate with eggs (again, pasture raised), moderate with high-sugar fruits (many more berries than bananas, for instance), very moderate w/ grains, less so w/ beans/legumes (soak them first) and abundant w/ veggies.
If you burn 2,500 calories per day and only eat 2,000, you have created a deficit of 500 calories per day. Since your body needs 2,500 calories and you have only provided 2,000 through food, it has to get those extra 500 calories from non-food sources: body fat. It is through this mechanism that weight loss occurs.
Increase your baseline physical activity. Baseline activity is activity that you already do everyday — walking up stairs, walking to and from your car, and doing daily chores. This type of activity does not burn a lot of calories, but can help support your weight loss.
I personally find it much easier to stick to a high carb diet where I control my calories. My complete exercise plan also consists of resistance training and walking for 45 minutes every day and I am happy with my results so far. Tim’s ideas have a lot of merit, but I find my method easier to stay with.
Dana, it has taken me just over 2 years to loe 50 pounds. I’m still losing but very slowly — which is good, not because I’m establishing habits that will be with me the rest of my life, and losing slowly keeps the metabolism from feeling as if it’s starving, So now I’m eating the fats and proteins that enable me to make healthy cells and my body’s critical biochemicals like enzymes, without which I wouldn’t be so healthy.
I do have treat meals, I find with socialising usually comes food and drink, so it’s almost impossible to avoid 100% of the time, and it’s also a good excuse for me to satisfy those cravings! So I usually have one treat meal every OTHER weekend, and when I say treat meal, I go all out – pizza or burgers followed by chocolate and a can of coke. The great thing about this, is that I feel uncomfortable for the rest of the night and the day after(and possibly the day after that) so it makes it very easy not to give in for another 2 weeks! However, when I do have a treat meal I will make sure I have a big work out in the gym the next day and sweat out all the crap! I will also mention that I don’t have ANY other treats, not a tiny piece of chocolate, or even a pasta shell because those little treats may have a big impact and really it isn’t worth the risk!
Whether you’re considering a Paleo diet to cut out processed foods, to eliminate certain food groups associated with your dietary intolerances, or to lose weight, there’s no denying that this caveman-inspired approach to eating is hugely popular.
Super Easy Crock Pot Chili – Make this when you wake up and it will be ready for you for a late lunch. Chili can be a drawn out process with lots of prep work but here we’ve simplified it so it’s easy to put together and there’s no need to babysit it while it’s in the Crock Pot. You’ll have to pick up some new habits while doing the Paleo diet, and making yourself chili for lunch may be one of them. If you start Paleo on a Monday this day will fall on a Saturday so you won’t feel rushed to make it.
