If you keep unhealthy foods on your counter, you are more likely to have an unplanned snack. This is also linked to increased weight and obesity. It’s better to keep healthy foods, like fruits, visible.
In addition, refined carbohydrates (and grains, in general) have a very negative effect on your blood sugar balance. When you have spikes in your blood sugar (the cracked out feeling you get after eating a box of candy and then the crash you feel afterward), you’re contributing to weight gain because of the insulin and cortisol spikes you create in your body. Congrats on taking steps to improving your health! Your initial weight loss is awesome, but keep in mind that the body needs to adjust to sudden changes. It may take you a few weeks before you lose more weight, and eating super low calories to force weight loss isn’t sustainable. So I would encourage you to eat to meet your nutrition and hunger needs, and not focus entirely on calorie count. Also, as you know, a sedentary lifestyle is hard, so just make every effort to move when you can. Kali – I wish I could give you a straight answer to this question, but it’s impossible to know how much weight you’ll lose without knowing exactly what you’re eating and how active you are (more details would be required to know this). Plus, you have to consider carbs, protein, how often you’re eating, if you’re cheating and how often, whether or not you have food sensitivities to things you’re still eating, how much you’re sleeping, how much caffeine you’re drinking, if you’re on any medications, and if you have any underyling hormonal issues (thyroid, estrogen, adrenals, etc), which could all affect your weight loss goals. The the sugar in the paleo diet doesnt matter if you keep it under control. Just know what your macros are in the foods your eating and you can keep the sugars. Anything in excess will cause weight gain. Like tje articles says, even excess healthy food will make you gain weight.
If you drink regular, go to 2%. If you already drink 2%, go down another notch to 1% or skim milk. Each step downward cuts the calories by about 20 percent. Once you train your taste buds to enjoy skim milk, you’ll have cut the calories in the whole milk by about half and trimmed the fat by more than 95 percent. New to Paleo and loving all your comments and help, I have dropped 1kg in just over 2 weeks, still having my glass of red wine! I cut out bread and all grains and my beloved dairy (all except fetta, got to have that in my salad!) and have started walking a bit more regularly. I am a young 56 (looks so old when I see it in writing!), with the menopausal waist line, but not exceedingly overweight. For me it will be a 90/10 journey and I have found that keeping it simple, (after I had many purchased e-books) is the way to go. I said simple, not boring, I still try and minimise my animal fats and have reduced carbs. I alternate by breakfast, nuts and seeds with almond milk one day and then a ‘purple smoothie’ on another. Love salads with olive oil and balsamic dressing, salmon and lean meats. I do snack on nuts if I get the urge, almonds, and not more than 10 and the really important thing……drink plenty of filtered water! I think only one person has mentioned hydration. You must keep your water intake up to help your body flush everything out, I have found this to be so important. Sometimes when you think you are hungry you are actually thirsty! I am happy with the way things are progressing and actually feel like I am doing my body a favour 🙂

I am a mother of 2 and breastfed both my kids and I can understand how frustrating it is to face yourself in the mirror each day. But you have to remember that your priority right now is your baby’s health, your baby needs all the nutrients that he/she needs in order to be healthy and strong. You can worry about losing the fat later by eating healthy food and exercise. If you still want to lose weight now, why not do it gradually, start by eating small portions and more frequent like every 2 hours with healthy snacks like fruits, veggies. Yoga also helps in toning your body.

The Lows: Detoxing from sugar and caffeine. Like a drug addict I have found myself going through serious withdrawal symptoms. I have had migraines and severe cravings (I would have done anything for a chicken burger this week) and I have felt exhausted and freezing cold.
