i think that approach might be needed only to a small percentage of people who hit a plateau and still needs to lose weight. for most of us it is not needed to be so strict. and you’d be surprised that enjoyment in life does not come from food alone 🙂 it is very well possible to have a lot of enjoyment in life without getting it from food. especially if giving up pleasure from food gives you back your health and rids you of excess body fat. try to explain it to a drug addict that life can be beautiful without drugs too. he likely won’t believe you. but we all know it is true. same goes for enjoyment from food. Life can be good without it too.

I imagine that you don’t get a lot of choice with dinner as you’re both fourteen, but maybe if your family is having a high carb side to their meal (like potatoes, bread etc) you could sub that for a salad or a carb which is easier to digest like sweet potato. You could cut your dinner down a little too and eat a smaller portion you usually would.
When you slip (and everyone does), don’t splurge. It’s okay to slip up every once in a while and eat something you know you’re not supposed to. Everyone does that. But when you slip, don’t fall down. Don’t justify splurging and going way overboard, ever. It’ll just make your goal even tougher and discourage you even more.
When I took the CLA , it took 7-8 months for it to notice it was working because of my chronically ill health. It required no exercise. For some people it works real quick. It will likely take way less time for most other people. You don’t use a weight scale to see if you shed pounds. Pinching the fat and seeing how many inches there is is more reliable method because weight scales don’t separate fat weight and muscle weight. Muscle weighs more. I actually weigh more but my body is very slim. I am 60.

Hi Laura. The potential problem with reducing carbs and increasing healthy fats is the caloric increase. If you do really low carbs you’d go into ketosis and burn fat. But if you go for healthy fats while continuing with carbs, the insulin (that drives you blood sugar into your cells) will keep you from efficient fat-burning. So, one thought is that you’d want to consider either further carb restriction (to make you a better fat burner) or going a bit easier on your fats (to decrease overall calories until you reach that tipping point where you start to lose weight), IF you can do that and still feel satiety from your diet.
Please note I’m not suggesting these types of exercise are not beneficial. I just don’t think it’s wise to make recommendations for strangers when we have no idea what else is going on “under the hood,” to use one of Robb Wolf’s phrases.

Pick any of the things from that list, and eat as much as you want of them (with the noted exceptions). You’ll feel better and be healthier.
The Paleo diet is working amazingly for me. I have been on it for just under 3weeks and lost 13kgs or 28lbs. I feel fantastic, I have been very strict though, and stuck to only the wholesome foods. 3 weeks ago I weighed in at 152kgs/335lbs, now i’m down to 139kgs/306lbs. Paleo is changing my life. Infact I don’t think I am doing the Paleo diet anymore… I am simply a Paleo!
If you’re following the 4-hour body, you should not be eating fruits during the week. Go crazy on your cheat day though. Yes, fruits are good for you, but this diet requires a very low intake of sugars during the week, and fruit has high levels of natural sugar. To satiate my sweet tooth during the week, I’ll have a small bowl of sugar-free jello.
Your metabolism — how well your body turns calories into fuel — also matters. And if you cut too many calories, it’s bad for you. You slow down your metabolism, and that can make you fall short on some nutrients.
