My husband and I have been doing paleo for a month now. He started because after having much his sigmoid colon removed last year, due to diverticulitus. He had another flare up last month. He does great on it- feels fantastic- but, he needs to quit losing so much weight! He is 6’2 and down to 165 lbs. He’s in the Army, so he works out or runs almost everyday. (he’s not very muscular- people see him as skinny) How can he stay Paleo and not lose more weight? I give him lots of fruit to snack on and even got a dehydrator so he could eat more and feel like he’s eating chips instead. He eats a lot! He can’t have nuts due to the diverticulitus- so we can’t add that fat/calories to his diet, and he doesn’t like avocados either. Thanks, Janet
If you begin using this somewhat unusual tip starting today you can literally expect to drop up to 3 dress sizes inside of a week, which I know may sound far-fetched to you like it did to all of these women that have done it using this tip, but I promise it’s not so just keep reading.
Another challenge this week was going to my friend Dave’s wedding. I ate grilled vegetables for the appetizer, risotto for mains (okay, that was really bad) with a plate of chicken salad. And NO cake. I was proud.
I am just reading this site! The recipes look delicious and everyone’s comments have sounded positive! I an 67 and need to loose weight and lower my cholesterol. I’m hoping this will do the trick! I’m also tired a lot! Any comments?
A great source of calcium and important cancer-fighting compounds, broccoli also has loads of filling fiber and will set you back only 30 calories per serving. If eating this cruciferous veggie makes you bloat, try steaming it first, which makes it easier to digest while still preserving the cancer-fighting ingredients that could be lost when you boil or cook it in the microwave.
I simply went primal the day I received Mark Sisson’s book, The Primal Blueprint. At first I had a lot of fruit and nuts to help with the transition and when I eventually plateaued I tweaked my diet and ate less of those things. It took almost three years to get to where I am now. I just put one foot in front of the other and didn’t look back.
You probably think of fiber as good for digestion, but it’s also an important component of a heart healthy diet. “One of the most important nutrients for heart health is soluble fiber,” explains Kelly. “Eating soluble fiber can help lower your cholesterol level and better manage blood sugar levels.” Aim for about 10 to 25 grams of soluble fiber per day; you can find it in:
Ditch alcohol and sugary beverages. Both alcoholic beverages and sugary beverages contain excess calories that may work against your weight loss plan. Ideally, completely pass these up as long as you desire continued weight loss.
Slapping the diet with multiple low scores, the experts couldn’t accept that entire food groups, like dairy and grains, are excluded, making it hard for dieters to get all the nutrients they need. It’s one of the few diets that experts actually considered somewhat unsafe and only somewhat complete nutritionally.
Get adequate rest. Sleeping seven to nine hours each night is recommended for general health and wellness. However, adequate sleep is also important for weight loss. Studies show that people who sleep less than six or seven hours nightly or have poor sleep weigh more than those who get adequate rest.
The weight loss and health benefits of going Paleo are still up in the air, with only a handful of very small published on the topic. Regardless, a lot of people seem to be giving up grains and doing without dairy these days. Let’s take a closer look at what all the fuss is about.
Sleeping an extra hour a night could help a person drop 14 pounds in a year, according to a University of Michigan researcher who ran the numbers for a 2,500 calorie per day intake. His scenario shows that when sleep replaces idle activities — and the usual mindless snacking — you can effortlessly cut calories by 6%. Results would vary for each person, but sleep may help in another way, too. There’s evidence that getting less than 7 hours of sleep revs up your appetite, making you uncommonly hungry.
I have not read it nor will I ever try to cut grains out of my diet. I like grains and they give me no problems. I’m not one to jump on every bandwagon that comes along just because it’s all the rage.
This is so true! I use this diet to kick start a period of healthier eating. It is pretty low carb. I usually do keto eating afterwards, but I alternate days of very few carbs with “healthy carb days”, so my hormones don’t get too grumpy. 2-3 days of keto eating, then 1-2 days of healthy carbs. It works for me. It makes me get off of processed junkfood- no white flour and sugar. The soup is a great tool for anyone trying to eat keto. You can have as much of it as you want. The soup keeps for like a week, since it doesn’t have meat. It’s cheap, healthy and delicious.
Great article! I started the paleo diet a couple months back, in the second month I have lost 3lbs on the second week then on the 4th week gained it all back. After that I stopped and I used http://healthyfitnatural.com/3-day-military-diet/ which help me to lose this 3lbs but I heard that it shouldn’t be used very often since it is not good for overall health? Is that true, can someone help me with this… I know that I am not “good paleo diet girl” so what should I do from now on?
I’ve been on the Paleo diet for one week and I’ve lost 10 pounds so far. I usually have an egg, avocado and some berries for breakfast. Grilled chicken, greens, avocado, and a small piece of fruit for lunch. And for dinner I’ll have fish or venison (my husband and I hunt and fish on our land along with having a big orchard and garden) greens, roasted butternut squash and raw veggies. If I feel like I need a snack I have a glass of ” chocolate milk” it’s almond milk, coco powder, and liquid steave. Put it in a pinte jar shake and refrigerator for a few hours. It’s the best.

It’s just fruit plus sunlight, right? What could be so bad about that? Well, the simple fact is that dried fruit is incredibly tasty because it contains way more sugar than raw fruit. One cup of raisins contains more than 434 calories, almost the same amount found in one-and-a-half McDonald’s cheeseburgers! Yeah, dried fruit is high in fiber and a fiber rich diet is definitely a good thing when you’re gunning for a flat tummy but all that sugar is going to offset a lot of the benefit. Enjoy, but sparingly. Scarfing too much sugar is definitely one of the 30 Bad Habits That Lead to a Fat Belly.
Sorry, but somebody had to say it. Even when following the Paleo diet, calories still count. The caveat, however, is that Paleo calories generally count less because they primarily come from whole, unprocessed foods. The reason for this is that whole foods require more energy to digest than their processed counterparts. Take, for example, a stalk of celery. By the time you chew, swallow, digest and absorb it, you’ve actually expended more calories than the celery contains, meaning that it’s actually providing negative calories! By comparison, a Twinkie requires almost no energy to chew, digest or absorb, but if you were going strictly by the listed caloric content, you would think that a calorie from a Twinkie is the same as a calorie from celery. In other words, a calorie is not a calorie. What Paleo folks have to keep an eye out for are the Paleo “loopholes,” Paleo foods that are technically allowed, but are still calorie dense and easy to eat. To be sure, Paleo treat foods made with sugar from dates, honey and maple syrup, and fat from coconut oil or other nuts are certainly better options than Twinkies and Ding Dongs, but they are still treats. Save them for special occasions to avoid overloading on healthy but excessive calories.
If you eat breakfast, then this is the most important meal to load up on the protein. Studies show that those who eat a high-protein breakfast are less hungry and have fewer cravings throughout the day (10).
I am still persisting in taking PhenBlue now. I feel nauseated when using PhenBlue, but I have lost 12 pounds in a month. Although the result is not really perfect, PhenBlue makes me more confident with my body.
For the record, no I would not substitute meat protein for cheese protein. If you really dislike beef, then at least substitute it for another meat protein like chicken or fish. On day 5 and 6, you need an animal protein for your metabolism.
Research has linked snacking on nuts with having a lower waist circumference. Nuts are rich in monounsaturated fats, making them a more satisfying pick than pretzels. Make sure you stick to the unsalted versions to stave off sodium-induced puff, and keep in mind one serving is about a small handful.
At the table, sip water frequently. Intersperse your eating with stories for your dining partner of the amusing things that happened during your day. Your brain lags your stomach by about 20 minutes when it comes to satiety (fullness) signals. If you eat slowly enough, your brain will catch up to tell you that you are no longer in need of food. Check out this other trick that helps you eat less.
Hi! I am an avid crossfitter, but since my divorce, my training has been cut in half with 2 little ones at home. I put on 20 pounds! Ugh… never thought that would happen. My diet wasn’t great either. Anyway…. I just started Evolve Paleo last week – which i LOVE – and am wondering how soon I will start losing some pounds. I feel so much better, just want to lose the weight that I gained over the last 18 months.
fizkes/ShutterstockDaily weigh-ins can make you feel terrible, especially if you’re the type to obsess over every ounce. Yet abandon the scale completely and research has shown your weight is likely to creep up over time. Fortunately a recent study from Cornell found there is a happy medium. People who weighed themselves at a set time each week not only didn’t gain weight but even lost a few pounds without making any other changes to their diets. They say that seeing the number can make you more mindful of what you eat throughout the week.
My boyfriend and I started paleo about a week ago and we’ve already noticed our bodies seem less puffy! Neither of us are too overweight (my bmi is 25, his 27) but we really do want to look hot! My issue is I’m not sure really how much carbs, protein and fats I should be taking in. I’m using sparkpeople to get an idea of what I’m consuming and my carbs are the highest, protein next, and fats last. I’m hoping just the change in diet will help me lose weight, especially when I start the p90!!
