I started looking what was up and I found the slightly more extreme Bulletproof diet of 70% fat, 20% protein and 10% vegetabley carbs. So I tried that out, made some of the “Fat Bomb” treats and kept them in my freezer and I continued to loose an additional 40 lbs over a few months. No exercise, although that would have helped. The diet claims its not necessary to exercise to loose weight if you are on this diet, which turned out to be completely true. Now if anyone is like me, I did not want to go to a gym as an excessively flabby person (or EFP if I may) so it was great to first loose weight sitting at home, doing collegely study-like things, reading, video games, etc and then be able to start exercising (I chose swimming because its fun and I have large breasts that make it hard to run in public, not bragging but very true nonetheless. They are all submerged when you swim). I gained confidence and even competed in the cosplay contest in Salt Lake City ComicCon 2015 as a Borg drone and won second place (that is bragging). I continued on the diet simply because my BRAIN WOKE UP! I could think so much clearer on a carbless diet and I swear grades went up because of it. The greatest difference was my ability to focus on things. I went from focus-of-a-knat to focus-of-a-cat (I assume they are good focusers?). So that was, after the weight loss, the reason I kept on the diet. But I often break from it for icecream. Hopefully that’s not going to turn the tides on me…
Katrina, you could have been me posting this! I agree 100% with you. I also was a vegetarian, even trying veganism for a short time and teach at a public school. I eat one starchy vegetable per day, love the vegetable choices, and eat about four ounces of protein three times per day. I have lost weight, have much more energy, my inflammation issues are gone as are depression and anxiety for the most part. I also rarely get sick! This is the first lifestyle change I have made where I no longer experience cravings for junk. It is very exciting and a huge relief. If, for some reason, the only food available is something I am not willing to eat, I can refrain from eating without feeling faint. My anemia and ovarian cysts have diminished. You are right, also, that Paleo can be expensive if you let it. We just do the best we can and eat seasonally. Certain months we have more money and stock up on grass-fed foods. We are able to go hunting, crabbing, and fishing where we live. We can grow our own food. We have farmer’s markets and farm shares we can purchase. I used to work at a grocery store and was honestly repulsed by what people bought to feed their families. Even prior to going Paleo, my family ate whole foods for the most part. These poor kids have to try to learn while trying to live off of factory-made, processed, junk. I work at a lower-income school and many of the students have bags of hot fried cheese curls (not sure if we can mention brand names) for breakfast and/or snack plus a sugary drink. The school does not allow candy but it wouldn’t be any worse! I try to teach lessons that revolve around healthy lifestyles and good food choices but these children don’t have much of a choice in what their parents have available.

Mina….you are trying so hard to be skinny when sometimes your body will make it harder while breastfeeding. This is not the time to worry about being fat as long as you are eating healthy foods/nutrients packed and not fried/junk food. when you are breastfeeding the body is trying to hold on to fat for the baby. you cant have it both ways (unlike what you see with celebrities). not all people will be thin while breastfeed (some celebs who you dont hear about are fat from it too). I was always skinny 120lb 5’7″ and eat whatever I want. at 32yr, i had my first girl and was only 10lbs overweight. But, each year I breastfed her, i gained 5lbs while eating like a cow – i was always hungry. ..and therefore, I looked 5 months pregnant while doing no exercise cuz my daughter was so high maintenance. I didn’t start an exercise program for two years after and steadily on year 3. you cannot short your baby by cutting calories so low like you’re doing. you might as well just give him/her a bottle formula. You are younger than me, I had the added problem of being older and realizing that as you get older weight is harder to drop after 30 plus. now i still battle that last 5-7lbs even though i exercise vigorously and have a semi good diet. I dont eat not even half of much bad stuff i used in my twenties and still cant get my body fat to go down past a certain %. I now 125lb but still have all my fat in my stomach (genetics but always bad place to carry it). i cant feel my six pack with showdowy outline).

Any weight loss program must be able to diagnose and address what is broken internally. Limited exercise can be an adjunct to this if they diagnose and treat correctly. The problem with most weight loss programs is that they can’t diagnose what is wrong internally. Most ignore the tainted food supply and have people stupidly focus on calories. The more healthier people will have success. The less healthy won’t.
I love my carbs, but could probably give them up if egg whites and chicken are involved. However, I hate vegetables, making the rest of the diet tough. Are there any other “normal”/non-veggie foods that could be successfully integrated into the diet?
Not technically, all that part was really saying was that it helps with your metabolism because your body is already so used to that “crap” that just getting rid of that will actually double the effort to get rid of it in your system. If you still have that “crap” at least 3 times a month than it won’t shock your system when you quit cold turkey. It would regulate your metabolism, that’s all. Of course simply just eating that will get you to gain weight for sure.
I have noticed that urine volume has increased a lot. Frequency remains pretty much the same though so thats good. You’re right though about changing breakfast being the hardest. I just keep eating eggs and bacon which psychologically is wrong (I’m not sure bacon is even allowed!). I’m used to greek yoghurt with a tablespoon of apricot and honey compote on work days (with large filter coffee) and a Venti non-fat starbucks on saturday with a bacon & egg bap on Sunday. I’ve been on it for 7 days. I’m not hungry at all. I’m sufffering from the mental challenge of it though, hitting a wall atm. Must…find…strength.
I don’t think that I would do very well with this diet. I prefer to eat the majority of my calories through bread, pasta and rice. I have about a 5.5% body fat, and weigh about 140-145 pounds most of the year. I do run a lot, as well as cross train a lot; any time that I stop workout out, I lose weight too fast and have trouble getting it back. I like the concept, though, and will certainly plan some meals around it.
If you drink regular, go to 2%. If you already drink 2%, go down another notch to 1% or skim milk. Each step downward cuts the calories by about 20 percent. Once you train your taste buds to enjoy skim milk, you’ll have cut the calories in the whole milk by about half and trimmed the fat by more than 95 percent. One disclaimer: There are times when fat-free dairy isn’t the best option.
On Saturday I ate my typical breakfast of 4 egg whites, 2 whole eggs, and 6-8oz cooked baby spinach. 2.5 hours later I drove through Taco Johns and ordered a grilled burrito, small potato ole’s, and a small Mountain Dew. (I actually had a hard time finishing it whereas this would have almost been an appetizer before). 3 hours later I ate mixed fruit and some veggies and dip (cocktails), and finally ate chicken breast, dinner rolls, and a few M&Ms at the end of the evening. I will also note that all day I drank about a gallon of water or more.
Stock your pantry and refrigerator with healthy foods. Get rid of the high-calorie, low-nutrition snacks like chips and candy. But don’t forget to have plenty of healthier options available as well, such as popcorn (hold the butter, try Parmesan cheese sprinkles), low-fat cheese and yogurt, fruit, instant cocoa without added sugar, sugar-free popsicles or puddings, or whatever appeals to you when you’re hungry for a snack.

I dont look at weight, or even a scale. I look at how my clothes fit, how I have energy and how I have returned to being human – I didnt know what that meant until I went Paleo. I started thinking for myself and accepting that my thoughts were never going to be in line with the large food conglomerates who have poisoned our notion of what “good” food is. I am happy! I am gaining weight even though I am trying very hard to adapt to paleo. What am I doing wrong? A typical daily menu is 1 tablespoon psyllium husks with 1 tbsp coconut oil, coffee with 2 tbsp cream, 1/2 cup coconut cream with 1 tbsp chia seeds, tea with 2 tbsp coconut cream, 8 almonds, 1 date, 110g ham, 1 piece fruit, 200g salmon, 1/2 cup beans, 1/2 cup cauliflower all with butter, 1/2 cup milk kefir with 1/2 tbsp flaxseed oil, 1/4 cup coconut milk with 1/4 cup milk with cinnamon and nutmeg, 4 glasses of water. To stop being charged money on your credit card, instead get a prepaid card from the grocery store for the exact amount that you are expected to pay. They empty the prepaid card and there is no money to keep charging against in the future! Works every time.
