Yes! I am one as well and I have seen that this has made my glucose stay lower, better and more steady 🙂 I have also lost good weight with the no-carb diet and I would recommend it. These are important points, Chris. Thank you. I think that weight loss is an area that has been under dealt with in paleo. Certainly any obese person going from SAD to Paleo will probably lose quite a bit of weight, but the rest of us who have been trying to eat right for a long time already may have trouble getting down to their ideal weight on Paleo (especially women, I would guess). I struggle around a BMI of 21, when I feel so much better and healthier at 19 (still fatter than the average Kitavan woman, lol!). I have also recently discovered your number one “Keep your food simple” rule. I have a theory about this. Food clearly serves both physiological and social purposes. Fancy dishes (usually calorically very dense) are reserved to special occasions in traditional societies (potlatches and other types of special feasting occasions). In the modern world where we are used to having anything we want, we have gotten used to having feast day be every day.

I am 75 last year went on the Paleo program lost 30 lbs felt and looked great. fell off the wagon and have put about 5lbs back on I have had 3 knee replacements and both hips replaced, can’t seem to excercise enough to feel fit like I used to, did a lot of walking but now have a bone growing in my foot and very painful any suggestions are there Sebastopol area people around? thanks Linda

Just a heads up that the first month of Paleo is quite challenging for most people, as they break-free from addictive foods and go through “The Dreaded Detox.” Most people get past this after 4-6 weeks on the’diet.’ With regards to nuts, the general consensus is ‘a small handful a day’ doesn’t seem to cause most people any issues. Fruit is a different story. Fruits are almost entirely made up of carbohydrate, with some fruits containing more carbs (i.e. bananas) than others (i.e. granny smith apples). In general, minimizing fruits (and carbs in general) will expedite weight loss. Also, if you can save your carbs/fruit till later in the day, they will have less of a ‘roller-coaster’ effect on your blood sugar throughout the day. Dried fruit and fruit juice are some of the highest-carb foods out there, and for this reason I personally avoid them. Having said all that, everyone is unique with regards to how many carbs their bodies are optimized with, and it does take some trial and error at first to figure out what will work best for you.

Write yourself a meal plan. If you are not exercising to burn calories, you must trim them from your diet in order to lose weight. Writing out a meal plan can help you plot out all your meals and snacks and make sure they fit into your pre-determined calorie range.

If you’re relatively sedentary, or are only able to do a small amount of exercise every day (due to pain, health conditions, immobility, etc.), you may find that eating a lower carbohydrate diet (7-15% of calories) may help you shed weight faster. If you’re highly active, have a physically demanding job, or have tried a low carb approach in the past without success, you might find a more moderate carbohydrate approach can be helpful (15-30% of calories) in stimulating fat loss.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. Supplements can be used for this, even if your diet and exercise is mediocre. That said, the regimen of supplements that would accomplish this would make your liver and kidneys most unhappy, as both will be affected, and the liver will be filtering most of them from your blood.

Regular physical activity can help you maintain your weight, keep off weight that you lose and help you reach physical and cardiovascular fitness. If it’s hard to schedule regular exercise sessions, try aiming for sessions of at last 10 minutes spread throughout the week.

    That was about 15 years ago and umteen diets later I still can’t loose that weight. Had some success with extreme diets that had me weak and fainting, but other diets that used to work like Weight Watchers, Atkins, low glycemic, you name it have little to. I impact.
