This all looks super delish! However, can anyone advise me on how easy this is to keep up whilst working full time? And how expensive? I love this kind of food, and think it really helps when you mix that with regular workouts. However I work 12 hour shifts. On my 4 days off, I can prep and be super motivated! But when I am on shift, sometimes I just don’t have the time, or the money! Help!

Open up a big bag of baby carrots and dip them into your freshly made no-oil-added, no-salt-added hummus. Simply whip up in your food processor a can of no-salt-added chickpeas/garbanzo beans, fresh tomatoes, lemon juice, garlic, a jalapeno pepper (if you like your hummus hot and spicy), and fresh herbs like cilantro and dill. Add a little water, if necessary, until the desired consistency is achieved.

I just had a conversation with my beautiful cousin, Meg about calories. She’s thin as a rail and has always had a sweet tooth. She decided a while back to cut out some of the candy and other junk food she was eating, and instead opt for a healthier snack of nuts and dried mango. Well, she ended up gaining 7 pounds on a small frame in a short period of time because she was overeating those “healthy” foods. The moral of the story is that it doesn’t matter how healthy your food is; if you eat too much of it, you’re going to gain weight.

The Paleo diet consists of “wild foods” – foods that would have been eaten by hunter-gatherer tribes. This means fish, grass-fed meats and game meats are all acceptable, but farm-raised animals should be excluded. Vegetables and fruits are also acceptable, but there are variations on which ones are acceptable – some versions of the Paleo diet say you’re only allowed “wild fruits” such as berries, while others make more concessions. Some versions of the Paleo diet recommend raw eating, but cooking your foods is perfectly acceptable. Eggs, nuts, seeds and anything else you could pick up (gather), such as roots and fungi, are also acceptable foods in the Paleo diet.

Women who do yoga tend to weigh less than others, according to a study in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association. What’s the connection? The yoga regulars reported a more “mindful” approach to eating. For example, they tend to notice the large portions in restaurants but eat only enough to feel full. Researchers think the calm self-awareness developed through yoga may help people resist overeating.

Exercise is simply a brisk walk for 45 to 60 minutes per day. Also golf once or twice a week. I am a 57 year old female who would like to lose another 21 pounds. My advice is to go easy and keep loving your body! It works hard for you. Good luck Taubes and Bailor have definitely not refuted the considerable amount of hard data showing that we are, in fact, eating more. Whether that is the cause of the obesity epidemic is a subject for debate, because correlation never equals causation. However, based on my review of the evidence, I believe it is the predominant factor (among others, including changes to the gut microbiome).

  1. A big salad of baby spinach and other fresh veggies, such as sliced carrots and tomatoes, topped with your favorite canned no-salt-added beans. Toss salad with about ½ teaspoon of wasabi (to taste) and 3 to 4 tablespoons of rice vinegar.
I think it’s great that you are committing to the paleo lifestyle for bettering you and your family’s health. We are also just starting this journey. We have an 80/20 lifestyle right now for no processed foods, which I thought was a good step towards health but decided the paleo lifestyle, after a bunch of reading, was actually way healthier. The downer for us is dairy……we are committed to doing the paleo on an 80/20 scale also. We will do paleo 80% of the time and the no processed foods the other 20%. We are cutting processed foods out completely. Hope your journey goes well and you can always look me up on FB if you have it and we can help support each other. I don’t know to many people personally that agree with my way of eating so therefore online friends are my go to for helping the motivation. 🙂
