Thank you for this info, I tried the paleo diet and within 4 days had put on 1.5kgs as I wasn’t a where of these tips, and like you I don’t have much weight to lose, I was more doing for the no junk in food . But stop after putting on weight. With this information I will have another go 🙂

Yes, you need your salt and your fat. Stephan suggests eating them separately. I suggest you get your salt from your home made bone broth that you have salted up, and get your fat from your unsalted kerrygold butter or coconut oil in your coffee, or a plain avocado. I also suggest doing what ever you have to do to get your vegetables to taste good enough to eat as long as you don’t go too crazy. I like dropping them into the broth, salting them up after steaming, or putting spinach in the vitamix with some frozen berries and water and enjoy a smoothie.

Diet diary: I was naughty in New York so as punishment I’ve decided to start from the beginning of the diet. Let the fasting begin again! So I had a day of eating nothing but a handful of veggies. Whilst it was nothing like the withdrawal that experienced when I first started the plan, it was still tough. But I knew I had to do it in order to get rid of that horrible sugar addiction.

Knowing that I could be a vegan or an almost total meat-o-saurus (e.g. Kitavan vs Inuit) or anything in between, with appropriate gut bacteria (feed them and they will come), and acknowledging any peculiarities I might have (e.g. gluten, lactose, nut, or other intolerance) I can tailor a lifestyle for myself that ticks all my boxes AND is as healthy as we currently believe it can be.

  1. The best you can do is cut down on your food intake. Stick to high-protein foods and slow-release carbohydrates to make you feel full for longer, and drink plenty of water. Avoid sugary and fatty foods at all costs. Get up and move about every 50 minutes for a few minutes — you can think on your feet some of the time.

    You could also “make your own version” of the Paleo diet. If you don’t want to, don’t exclude grain products but try to limit processed foods like fake meats, pizzas, maybe white bread? Just bring more variation by adding more vegetables and fruits to your diet (eggs if you’re not vegan) and limiting added sugar, instead of limiting grain products. No one says you have to be 100% strict Paleo to see positive results, there’s a lot of people who don’t exclude dairy or beans from their Paleo diet
    Drink massive quantities of water and as much unsweetened iced tea, tea, diet sodas, coffee (without white cream), or other no-calorie/low-calorie beverages as you like. Do not drink milk, normal soft drinks, or fruit juice. I’m a wine fanatic and have at least one glass of wine each evening, which I believe actually aids sports recovery and fat-loss. Recent research into resveratrol supports this.
