I do not have much weight to lose (about 10 pounds ), and I wonder if to lose , I have to necessarily go low carb or low fat , or if I can have a balance of macronutrients. I enjoy fat AND carbohydrates. I do not eat meat , but eggs and fish . For breakfast I like eating fruits with lots of coconut milk or eggs with vegetables and potatoes ou fruit. For the over meal, I eat rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes or quinoa with avocado, plenty of vegetables and fruits, and, for dinner, some fish (I prefer fatty fish). I’m afraid to perturb my metabolism of I go on a low carb or a low fat diet, because I don’t have a lot of pound to lose. What do you think? 🙂

First things first: Whether you do or don’t want to lose weight is totally personal; if you want to, great, but if you don’t, that is perfectly fine as well. If weight loss is one of your goals this year and you don’t know where to start, you’re not alone. Nearly a quarter of the Americans who resolve to change something about their lives this New Year’s will be hoping to shed some pounds—and preying on these doe-eyed resolvers will be all manner of “fast weight loss solutions.” They’ll guarantee instantaneous results or promise to make the pounds melt off without you having to change a thing. The reality is, losing weight in a safe, healthy, and effective way is a lot more complicated than that.

Danielle – you may be experiencing what they call the carb-flu its basically your body detoxing from the carbs and sugar that we are no longer eating. How long have you tried eating this way? Usually the carb-flu will last about a week or so but for some it can take a couple of weeks before you start feeling really good – hard to deal with but is so worth it once you get over that hump! Another suggestion would be upping your fat intake and make sure you are getting plenty of sleep. research is showing more and more how very important the sleep aspect is for our health! Good luck I hope this helps!

I really need to change my eating habits the problem I won’t eat 95% of the food on this list. I don’t eat a lot of veggies and I don’t eat fish at all. I’m not sure there is a diet that would really work for me. This diet sounds like it helps with pain and inflammation which 8 have a lot of. Do you have any recommendations as to how I can find foods that I will eat that will help?

Although medical treatment (for example orlistat [Alli, Xenical]) is available, they should only be used by people who have health risks related to being obese. Doctors usually consider medications to be an appropriate treatment in patients with a BMI greater than 30 or in those with a BMI of greater than 27 who have other medical conditions (such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high blood cholesterol) that put them at risk for developing heart disease. It is not recommend that medications be used for cosmetic weight loss or to lose small amounts of weight.

Size doesn’t matter: I’m in sports training right now and my heart’s big once again. The size of the heart is not a concern. I’m an autopsy pathologist, and 100% of obese people have enlarged hearts simply from carrying the weight. Ditto if you’re doing serious athletics. A large heart is no more a liability than a weight-lifter’s big biceps — it’s what the enlargement is a marker for. Big or not, you’ve done well. …Read more

I have been strict Paleo for 9days. Completely illuminated dt. Coke, which has been my rocket fuel for 20 years. I am a type 1 diabetic. I am very active, runner, Zumba and I move all day at my job. These past 5 days my muscles are fatigued. 15 min.into an hour workout and my thighs are screaming. What is going on? Help!

His claim of “some decrease in narrowing of arteries (stenosis) was also found in various medical treatments and other diets of various kinds. “Some” is usually just “small” reduction in stenosis and has often been at the very edge of experimental resolution and occurs in “some” participants.

Antioxidant Berry Shake – This shake will load you up with antioxidants which will make you feel good by helping to protect you from free radicals. Health experts agree that antioxidants play an important role in helping to support the immune system and fight off major diseases like cancer and heart disease. No diet would be complete without a focus on these important nutrients.

My son suddenly suffered seizures and “Alice in Wonderland” migraines at age 10. After seeing 6 neurologists, including the head of neurology at Children’s Hospital, we were hopeless. He had severe reactions to the drugs they prescribed (6 of them) and missed over a month of school. Guess what? It was gluten. He doesn’t have Celiacs – it caused neurological symptoms instead of gut issues. It took many, many, months of agony, but we whipped it. He’s gluten-free, drug-free, and seizure free now! Food can be dangerous too!

In people, dieting also reduces the influence of the brain’s weight-regulation system by teaching us to rely on rules rather than hunger to control eating. People who eat this way become more vulnerable to external cues telling them what to eat. In the modern environment, many of those cues were invented by marketers to make us eat more, like advertising, supersizing and the all-you-can-eat buffet. Studies show that long-term dieters are more likely to eat for emotional reasons or simply because food is available. When dieters who have long ignored their hunger finally exhaust their willpower, they tend to overeat for all these reasons, leading to weight gain.

Conversely, the more food in front of you, the more you’ll eat—regardless of how hungry you are. So instead of using regular dinner plates that range these days from 10 to 14 inches (making them look empty if they’re not heaped with food), serve your main course on salad plates (about 7 to 9 inches wide). Instead of 16-ounce glasses and oversized coffee mugs, return to the old days of 8-ounce glasses and 6-ounce coffee cups. Try these other tricks for eating in moderation.

I think the issue is what is done the results and how they are presented to the public. Coke is spending millions of dollars here and has a marketing PR budget that researchers don’t have so they can take the findings and share them and use them to try to fight policy and all these laws that are being debated about taxing soda. Coke has this body of evidence that is biased since they are funding exercise studies and not diet studies. They can then use these in public policy debates, and I think that could be really worrisome.

I think what you’re not getting is the article is saying the *weightloss* part of eating Paleo is often effortless, because a lot of people lose weight when the cut out the processed junk – I don’t think the article is implying that eating Paleo is easy (though for me it is!!) it is saying that the weight loss part once you make the switch is often without additional effort (calorie counting, exercising etc.). I think you are the one caught up on the semantics!
