thanks for the helpful tips!I went Paleo the beginning of last month,have lost 10 lbs already,sleep better,have more energy and have been told that my skin is glowing!I am doing this not just to shed the weight,but to prevent becoming diabetic,get off the blood pressure meds(thyroid may be a little trickier!)and help with the soreness of my knee,a structural anomaly(difference in lenghth of other one),but also overuse(I walk a LOTand exercise a LOT!)For years,I have embraced aspects of the Paleo path….avoided chemicals,make my own toiletries,ditched my can opener,etc the food part was a challenge,after being vegan/vegetarian for decades,etc….but THIS seems to work for me…I have many challenges about the weight thing in particular….I am 4~11″,66 years young,female and as mentioned earlier,that @&^$#* thyroid(Hashimoto`s)so this has been a supreme victory…I am so optimistic,I started giving away many of my clothes and buying new ones at smaller sizes!Rather than focusing on what I must give up,I am excited about the bigger picture of improved health!Some of my friends have dropped me because I am no longer a drinking buddy,etc…oh well…..
Day 8: morning, ok check the scale before eating or drinking and even better after doing your morning number 2, see where you’re at and don’t binge on junk food today, eat small meals at least 3 plus 2 healthy snacks. Your body might still be burning fat on day 8 and 9, if you don’t binge so your final number should be day 9 early morning before eating and drinking anything.
A typical day is a veggie omelette OR a fruit smoothie for breakfast, protein and salad for lunch, protein and veggies for dinner. I eat all kinds of vegetables including white potatoes once in a while, but keep the fruit to bananas and berries.

In summary, no sugar, no polyunsaturated fats, get fats from real butter and cheese, but most importantly, listen to what your body is telling you, do not eat out of habit. Eat when you are hungry and stop when you are not. If you aren’t hungry when you wake up, have a coffee and leave eating to when you are hungry.
I don’t know if they still have these, but the small pump bottles of low call dressing would be the ONLY thing I would consider, mainly because it’s pretty much flavored water! It’s better than nothing if you feel you have to have something. They are no calories, fat, etc
It’s also important to remember that undertaking a diet that’s too restrictive for you can lead to dangerous bingeing and yo-yo dieting, which over time can contribute to problems with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease.
I also wanted to mention that you can buy eggs made by hens that were fed feeds high in Omega3 fatty acids. These things are passed down into the eggs the hens lay. It is a good (and relatively inexpensive) way to get additional omega3s into your diet.
In order to lose weight, you should eat every 2-3 hours so your body does not get hungry and start storing fat. If your body knows you will be eating every 2-3 hours it will stop storing fat as long as you are not taking in too much fat. The water intake is good. Also, you should try to exercise at least 3-5 times per week. It sounds like from what I read that you are not taking in enough food and calories especially if you are breastfeeding. You may want to check with your doctor and find out how many calories you should be taking in when breastfeeding so the baby gets all the nutrients and you also will get the nutrients. If the baby takes everything, this could have an effect on your body especially your bones if you are not receiving enough calcium. Good luck!
I’ve finally hit phase three of the Metabolic Balance diet, which is not that different from phase two apart from now I have a bigger list of food to choose from. It’s like Christmas! I’m free to add oil, broccoli, asparagus and pork to my repertoire and I’m allowed one “cheat” meal a week of whatever food I want. Seriously, it’s crazy how satisfying a tablespoon of oil can be.
Breadie, you may be thinking of the Atkins diet a bit more than the paleo diet. If you’re doing the paleo diet correctly, you are eating a massive amount of vegetables. However, in addition to those vegetables, you need a source of good fats and protein to have a complete diet.

Thanks Chris for addressing this topic. While I listened to PaleoCon I noticed so many of the “I lost 12 lbs without trying” were people who switched from SAD to Paleo. Makes me wonder if the simple act of -intervention- to their diet was 75% of the catalyst to their weight loss? Another driver to their weight loss is of course the satiating food on Paleo, as compared to sugar highs and lows on SAD.
I have good news for you! Follow this diet as closely as you can and you will see quick results!! I had a personal trainer for 2 1/2 years and KILLED myself for an hour twice a week and cardio on the off days. I worked so hard they told me they wanted to train me for one of those bodybuilding shows. The only problem was, I never lost a pound. Not in 2 years! I was stronger, but still had a belly & big hips. My trainer always grilled me about my diet. He said losing weight was 75% diet and 25% working out. Take my advice and dont’ waste your money on a personal trainer until you get your eating right. When I finally ate right, I lost 12 lbs in 3 weeks. You will lose quicker since you have a little more to lose. It all starts with diet! I kept a diet chart and couldn’t believe all the times I was eating the wrong stuff. Good luck!
