Eat 1,500 milligrams or less of sodium per day to keep blood pressure low. Your first step is keeping the saltshaker off the table. “Instead, use herbs and spices or a salt-substitute such as Mrs. Dash,” suggests Kelly. Read the label on any pre-made spice mixtures, since often the first ingredient is salt, and you want to stay away from that.” Also be careful of hidden salt in the foods you’re eating. Anything over 140 mg of sodium per serving is a no-no. And surprisingly, these foods may be high in sodium:

I imagine that you don’t get a lot of choice with dinner as you’re both fourteen, but maybe if your family is having a high carb side to their meal (like potatoes, bread etc) you could sub that for a salad or a carb which is easier to digest like sweet potato. You could cut your dinner down a little too and eat a smaller portion than you usually would.

Most Americans get enough protein but could choose to get it from leaner sources, so you may already have plenty in your diet. Your exact protein needs depend on your age, gender, and how active you are.

There are many different ways to increase your movement throughout the day, and I outline several of them in my article about the dangers of sitting excessively. #2 is a hard one because many of us have so many different stressors that may cause us to gain weight while we’re trying to lose it. Sometimes, yoga, meditation isn’t an option when someone has a full time job and 5 mouths to feed at home. Any suggestions for those types of people? For me, I have anxiety disorder that I have been trying to treat naturally, holistically and through diet. Nothing works for me. Stress ALWAYS makes me gain weight but I have been sticking to Paleo and have lost the 30 lbs alone, which decreased my anxiety. Maybe being overweight (hormones) may contribute to stress alone? Like just being overweight can cause stress? I know it did for me.

Your body needs fat to heal wounds, keep your metabolism humming and get your brain cells firing. Coconut oil fits the bill and gets a big thumbs up from paleo enthusiasts. Why? It’s partly due to the medium-chain saturated fat lauric acid, which converts to energy more easily than other types of fat, ultimately aiding weight loss.
