I must be the odd duck. I have managed to gain weight instead of losing like I wanted. Frustrating doesn’t even sum it up. I am grain free, sugar free, legume free, etc.. following paleo for a year and have managed to gain instead of losing the 30 pounds
#2) It’s difficult (though getting easier) to eat Paleo in today’s society! A normal breakfast in the US consists of bagels, muffins, toast, cereal, or donuts. NONE of those things have any nutritional value, they’re loaded with tons of carbs and calories, and are composed of processed grains that can jack up your stomach.
When you eat sugar often — and in large amounts — the brain’s response becomes blunted and your cravings may increase. If you’re a self-proclaimed sugar addict, eliminating refined sugars from your diet may decrease or eliminate your cravings for the sweet stuff over time. Sugar withdrawal symptoms usually last one to two weeks, after which cravings should subside.
That’s funny! Seems to me it would be best to get advice from someone who has been successful at something rather than someone who has not succeeded! So logically, if you’re fat and don’t want to be… you should be getting advice from people who aren’t fat! The fatties won’t be able to help you, since they haven’t been able to help themselves.

For the most part, fruits are very nutritious and Paleo. However, some people eat way too many fruits on Paleo (perhaps because fruits are sweet). Also, remember that fruit juices (and for the most part dried fruits) are not really Paleo and should be avoided! If you’re having trouble losing weight on Paleo, then you might want to cut back on fruits.
If you are breastfeeding you really need to eat balanced meals, with proteins, low carbs and some fat. Whatever you eat, your baby also eats. For the health of your child, maybe you should start supplementing with formula so they get the necessary vitamins they need. i have definitely have noticed a difference on the paleo diet, the only thing is. i had a brain injury in 2008, @ disabled down my left side, so i cannot exercise, which is extremly frustrating, @ i find it harder, because, iam not burning off any calories, trying to get onto a clinical trail, to improve my condition, so fingers crossed, @ i can get my life back,, i spend hrs @ hrs emailing professors @ universities,…. with science changing @ moving rapid;y, iam sure things will work my way, …. but enjoy your emails kris, keep them coming in,

I want to comment on your crock pot chile recipe. I make practically this same recipe, ingredient for ingredient, but I do the whole thing on top of the stove and just let it simmer on low till much of the liquid evaporates or until I’m so hungry I just have to dig in. Also, I often have a bowl for a brunchy kind of thing by serving it with two eggs, sunny side up, on top. Sort of a huevos rancheros without the ranchero part. It’s really delish!

It took me 2 years to lose 65 pounds. I was looking great and then last August 2006 I had a heart attack. Is this diet O.K. to use for a person like myself who has heart disease now and who has been putting weith back on since the heart attack. I have regained 20 pounds and feel myself losing ground. I am not as active anymore and I find that the medications are making me have some water weight gain and I am craving sweets. Also Im heavily swimming and doing some light lifting, and push ups. Will this diet along with Whey Protein be enough to help my body maintain itself under this strain? Arnt those all way below the fats that you need? wouldnt an avocado a day or two also help in this matter? Im quite new to this, and greatly appropriate your help.
The “keep it simple” recommendation hits home for me. After a successful first year eating whole foods/paleo, weight started creeping back on. I *thought* I hadn’t changed anything, but then realized that my efforts to improve my culinary skills (scrumptious pan sauces, fancy soups and probably more added fats than needed) might be the culprit. Along with just too much food. I’m returning to how I did paleo-ish (I include cultured dairy) the first time around (more straightforward, easier food prep) and will reserve the fancy stuff for less frequent indulgences. I mean, indulgence does infer infrequency, right?

While I don’t think it’s necessary to restrict carbohydrates, I do think it’s important to match your carbohydrate intake to the amount of exercise you do. Not only can a mismatch stall your weight loss, but it can lead to instances of fatigue and muscle breakdown if you’re overexercising and not eating enough carbohydrate to match your activity level. I’ve had many patients who, in an effort to lose weight, ramp up their exercise and cut back on carbohydrate intake. Many even remove carbohydrates entirely, avoiding even small amounts of healthy choices like sweet potatoes and fruit. Unfortunately, this can often do more harm than good.

The lap band worked great. Lost about 115 pounds in 2 years. I’m doing this diet b/c my normal diet had become really crappy. I started eating food that was “easy” to eat due to the lap band. Not complaining but ther are a few inconveniences. I was really huge and now just want to get off the last 40 or so pounds. This new way of eating has got me back to following the “eating rules” of a lapband aswell as improving my diet. I have lost about 15 pounds in the first month, feel much better and I can tell I am stronger in my golf game-distance, stamina, etc due to the kettlebell workouts. By the way, I didn’t gain the weight back from the lap band, just was really big and had let my choice of food be dictated by convenience and not what I should be eating. Anyway, I waould have the lapband done again in a heart beat- literally added years to my life.
