And yeah, counting calories–actually monitoring everything you can about what you’re putting into your body and how your body responds–is a *really* good idea! (But psst! “fewer” calories. 😉 They are notoriuosly counted, after all.)

I have yo yo’d my whole life and finally got up over 200 again this past February. I eat healthy already (like Paleo/low carb style) even being big but too much at times I will admit. After eight weeks on low carb and then cutting and then cutting again the calories I got so frustrated after barely five pound loss even with some exercise. I have been taking progesterone for about two years so I went back to my doctor. I got my lab results yesterday. No allergies, no food allergies but huge issues with adrenal function, sluggish thyroid, high estrogen, super low vitamin D, high DHEA. On day one of thyroid meds and adrenal supplements as well as vitamin D. I wanna cry finally having some answers because I have felt like a total failure. Go to someone good who specializes in hormones and get a full check up. Seeing the lab results make me realize that no matter what food lifestyle I choose, short of starvation (which I have seriously thought about being this big again) I wouldn’t have lost the weigh. I pray these are the answers for me and maybe they might be for you too Liza.
Because paleo food is awesome. It’s great for weight loss. But then beyond simple weight loss with paleo, you can accelerate your weight loss with paleo tips and tricks, most especially macronutrient management.
Weight loss is not synonymous with health. The only requirement for weight loss is a calorie deficit; there is no need to exercise or eat healthy. A healthy lifestyle is much different and requires more than simple weight loss.

Plan Ahead: Make the Maple-Nut Granola for tomorrow. You can also buy granola, to make things easier. Aim for a granola that has around 130 calories or less and less than 6 grams of sugar per 1/4 cup.
Can you get used to the idea of breadless sandwiches? Or having your milk and cookies without either milk or cookies? Diets that restrict entire food groups are difficult to follow. On the flip side, you can determine how primal you want to be, working in some cheat meals if you like.
Do cross-training. Cross-training involves a range of different strength, endurance, and aerobic exercises that will work out many different parts of your body while generally keeping you from getting bored (which is a huge reason why people stop exercising). Cross-training regimes like may not be the best at burning a lot of calories very quickly (they’re better at replacing fat with lean muscle), but it’s worth trying out. Who knows, you could find a new inspiration!
It is not that fat that can wreck your diet and makes you gain weight. It is the good fat that is essential for your health. Omega-3s, a good fat, is important for your mental and physical health. It protects your heart and brain. If you add the correct amount of fat in your diet, then you will get a reduced waistline.
thanks for the helpful tips!I went Paleo the beginning of last month,have lost 10 lbs already,sleep better,have more energy and have been told that my skin is glowing!I am doing this not just to shed the weight,but to prevent becoming diabetic,get off the blood pressure meds(thyroid may be a little trickier!)and help with the soreness of my knee,a structural anomaly(difference in lenghth of other one),but also overuse(I walk a LOTand exercise a LOT!)For years,I have embraced aspects of the Paleo path….avoided chemicals,make my own toiletries,ditched my can opener,etc the food part was a challenge,after being vegan/vegetarian for decades,etc….but THIS seems to work for me…I have many challenges about the weight thing in particular….I am 4~11″,66 years young,female and as mentioned earlier,that @&^$#* thyroid(Hashimoto`s)so this has been a supreme victory…I am so optimistic,I started giving away many of my clothes and buying new ones at smaller sizes!Rather than focusing on what I must give up,I am excited about the bigger picture of improved health!Some of my friends have dropped me because I am no longer a drinking buddy,etc…oh well…..

I tried to get pregnant for almost 10 years. It wasn’t until they finally referred me to a fertility specialist that anyone considered testing to see if my fallopian tubes were viable. Danielle – you may be experiencing what they call the carb-flu its basically your body detoxing from the carbs and sugar that we are no longer eating. How long have you tried eating this way? Usually the carb-flu will last about a week or so but for some it can take a couple of weeks before you start feeling really good – hard to deal with but is so worth it once you get over that hump! Another suggestion would be upping your fat intake and make sure you are getting plenty of sleep. research is showing more and more how very important the sleep aspect is for our health! I have been on Paleo for about 15 months. The first two months I lost 15 pounds (after I had already lost 10 pounds the hard way). I maintained my weight for about 9 months then I gained 5 pounds. I have been trying so hard to lose those five pounds but instead I gained another 2! I am still following Paleo diligently and working out 5 or 6 days a week so I am super frustrated! I thought that I would at least maintain my weight by following this eating plan and didn’t expect to lose anymore, but I certainly didn’t expect to gain! I don’t know if anybody else has dealt with weight gain on Paleo. There isn’t much more I can cut out of my diet! I am very conscious of the calories I’m consuming which really irritates me since I was lead to believe that if you follow Paleo there is no calorie counting and you can eat as much as you want (which I never do anyway).
Pooooooor fat. It’s gotten a bad rap over the past number of decades, so companies have been doing everything possible to make everything low fat and “healthy!” (while adding all sorts of preservatives, chemicals, and sugar).
If you are bored with your diet or feel there are not many options.. I strongly suggest buying some paleo cook books. You do not have to feel like you are missing out on food. Just make a swap for something that will satisfy you. 🙂
I lost one pound for the week. I know my body pretty well, and I could tell I wasn’t losing much weight, but I will say this: if I lose one pound a week eating this way I’ll take it. In ten weeks that’s ten pounds, so I’m not going to give up quite yet. I’ll give it a month and see what happens. A four or five pound weight loss for the month I’ll consider a success.
Make friends with good fats. Small amounts of fat can help you feel full and less like you’re on a diet. The better choices are those in fish, nuts, and seeds, and olive oil or coconut oils. Those have unsaturated fats — polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fats, specifically.
My husband and I starting following a paleo eating style in September, 2014. I have lost about 20 pounds and have maintained that since early December.
