In summary, no sugar, no polyunsaturated fats, get fats from real butter and cheese, but most importantly, listen to what your body is telling you, do not eat out of habit. Eat when you are hungry and stop when you are not. If you aren’t hungry when you wake up, have a coffee and leave eating to when you are hungry.

My father and husband are military and we were stationed overseas in Germany, right on the border of Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. I am Canadian and I grew up there. Now I live in the States. I’ve seen American, Canadian, German and Dutch doctors. None were of any help. I think I’ve seen over 50 doctors for all the different symptoms I’ve had over the years.
My husband and I starting following a paleo eating style in September, 2014. I have lost about 20 pounds and have maintained that since early December. Early on, during my research, one author suggested to follow and 80/20 plan, striving to eat clean at least 80% of the time. I think this mind set has really helped me stick to the program. Knowing that I have limited, not eliminated foods makes it much easier for me. I find that I don’t even want the foods that are not part of the plan. But, hey, if I want to have a cookie I have one and don’t beat myself up over it.
As the diet plan is low in carbohydrates it may make you feel tired, dizzy, constipated, and have bad breath. It also claims to help you lose 15lb in two weeks, which is unsustainable and you are likely to lose a lot of water rather than true fat loss.”
The answer to your question is really subjective on you, your lifestyle, etc. I’m not trying to give a dodgy answer, but it’s really more trial and error than anything else. I’d like a simpler answer, but I’ve found that it really varies from one person another.

Hi, just wondering how the Paleo diet worked out for you? Did you end up losing weight? My suggestion would have been to eliminate Paleo “treats,” and to do a Whole30. Doing a Whole30 works to address the emotional reasons why we eat. A strict Paleo diet should be very satiating and even out your blood sugar levels, so you shouldn’t be reaching for a snack from hunger… so my guess would be that the snacks are more out of emotion/habit.
Research has shown that eating and exercise habits are greatly affected by your social network. In other words, you’re more likely to exercise and eat smaller portions if you spend time with people who do the same, and vice versa. So choose some fit and healthy friends, and get your immediate family to join you and support your healthy habits.
Limit saturated fat and trans fat and replace them with the better fats, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. If you need to lower your blood cholesterol, reduce saturated fat to no more than 5 to 6 percent of total calories. For someone eating 2,000 calories a day, that’s about 13 grams of saturated fat.

2. If you have a lot of fat to lose (ie. >20% body fat) then I would recommend a “Cheat Meal” to start rather than a “Binge Day”. There’s a continuum from Cheat Meal to Binge Meal to Binge Day in how severely you break the diet’s rules. A Cheat Meal might be excessive but still quality carbs like potatoes or pasta while a Binge Meal will have both excessive and low-quality carbs like a Snickers bar or slice of cake. The greater the fat to lose then the less severe of a binge is appropriate.

With a slow metabolism, it is difficult and stress can actually make you gain weight. Cut out foods that have high sodium. Sodium will retain the water you drink causing you to gain weight. If you have had something with high sodium, have a banana as its potassium content will help to remove the sodium. Cardio exercise is the best at getting the heart rate up and kicking the fat. Exercise when you get up in the morning, even if you’re doing jumping jacks for a minute or running in place. The heart rate is up and burning calories, which helps boost metabolism. Why 30 days? That’s the amount of time it takes for your body to reset and start the healing process, the authors say. It’s also enough time to change your tastes and improve your relationship with food, so you naturally begin to prefer whole foods to their highly processed counterparts. After the 30 days are up, you’re encouraged to slowly reintroduce off-limits foods to see what works for you and what doesn’t. (This is what happens to your body when you quit eating processed food.)

I recently started using My Fitness Pal and am really pleased to see how things are shaking down at the end of a day. I use it as a planning tool and a sort of watchdog. I’m not obsessive about it, but am learning a little more about how I’m eating. I trend toward what I call a WholePaleo plan; stick to Whole30 as closely as possible with a paleo flair. If I eat very low carb for a long period of time and then indulge in a (always grain/sugar-free) higher carb day, my weight loss stalls and it takes a long time to start losing weight again. Since nobody is 100% perfect on any diet, all the time, is it better for me to increase carbs to 20-25% overall, or just continue on very low carb? It’s so confusing.
I’ve tried different diets to see what works best for me. It’s hard to do, to make yourself a science experiment. But what I feel is working best for me is to be very moderate with meat (and make sure it’s pasture raised, grass fed), somewhat moderate with eggs (again, pasture raised), moderate with high-sugar fruits (many more berries than bananas, for instance), very moderate w/ grains, less so w/ beans/legumes (soak them first) and abundant w/ veggies.
Alcohol: Not part of a true Paleo diet. Following “The Paleo Diet,” though, you can have the occasional glass of wine or beer during a cheat meal. (Alcohol only adds empty calories anyway, and if you’re trying to lose weight, every calorie counts.)
100% whole grains. Foods that are whole grains are high in fiber and some vitamins and minerals. Quinoa, oats, brown rice, millet, and 100% whole wheat pasta and bread are examples of whole grains to include in your diet. Limit your grains to about 1/2 cup or 1 oz per meal.
Sear, skin side up, a 4-ounce cut of salmon in a hot nonstick skillet and cook until well browned on the bottom, 3 to 5 minutes. Turn and cook till slightly translucent in center, 1 to 3 minutes. Transfer salmon to serving dish. To skillet add ¼ teaspoon grated orange peel, 3 ounces orange juice, and ½ cup white wine. Boil until reduced by half, about 3 minutes. Stir in 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves. Spoon sauce over salmon.
I am allergic to tomatoes, all citrus and numerous other things in your plan. I also do not eat a lot of meat and don’t want to start. Is this diet based on the food items you eat together or is it as long as you eat natural foods w/o the wheat, dairy, sugar ect? I am on a low fixed income so have to limit my grocery bill also. Anyone who wants to give their thoughts, I would appreciate it.
