It’s just fruit plus sunlight, right? What could be so bad about that? Well, the simple fact is that dried fruit is incredibly tasty because it contains way more sugar than raw fruit. One cup of raisins contains more than 434 calories, almost the same amount found in one-and-a-half McDonald’s cheeseburgers! Yeah, dried fruit is high in fiber and a fiber rich diet is definitely a good thing when you’re gunning for a flat tummy but all that sugar is going to offset a lot of the benefit. Enjoy, but sparingly. Scarfing too much sugar is definitely one of the 30 Bad Habits That Lead to a Fat Belly.

Go 30 days grain, legume, dairy, alcohol free. Every meal is protein, veggies, a little fat. Aim for 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight. Lead with protein for each meal, it’s highly satiating and you’re less likely to overeat on snacks etc. Sleep 8-10hrs in a pitch black room. Done.
Turns out playing video games reduces the vividness and frequency of cravings compared with waiting it out, according to new research in the journal Appetite. (Study participants played Tetris.) Why? Because playing games distracts your laser focus on about that pint of ooey-gooey chocolate ice cream sitting in your freezer.

Do not consume less than 1200 calories daily. A diet that’s too low in calories puts you at risk for nutrient deficiencies as you cannot eat enough food to meet your daily requirements for most vitamins, minerals, and protein.

Actually, if you read Tim’s book he talks about how eating more protein and healthy fats can help you get over your plateau. He advises eating one more egg in the morning as an example. I would also add oil and vinegar to your salad as dressing to add healthy fats. I don’t think cutting down the already low cal meals your eating would help. Read Tim’s book for some more ideas. 🙂
What about your metabolism? There’s a common truism that exercising is beneficial for weight loss because it preserves muscle mass, and muscle burns more calories than fat even at rest, so muscle-building exercises assist weight loss by raising your metabolism.
For one thing, exercise improves insulin sensitivity. This effect, more than any calories burned during the workout itself, might be the main reason why exercise is such a powerful therapy for weight loss. Exercise is a powerful therapy for any kind of carbohydrate intolerance that might be sabotaging your weight-loss efforts.
I am on day two of Paleo and after reading the comments here I feel I must be doing something wrong. I have cut out most sources of carbs but still east fruit and sweet potato, I don’t feel hungry or tired at all (which is actually an improvement for me), in fact I feel full after every meal and haven’t found it difficult to stick to the diet. I run and gym at least 5 days a week anyway so I am continuing to exercise.
Pernille, The same thing happened to me. The Paleo Diet simply wasn’t enough to address my condition completely, but what it did do for me was keep my symptoms from worsening. What I discovered is that in order to make the weight gain change (I was 105 lbs, and gained 50 in the space of a few short months) I had to focus on eating QUALITY meats, grass-fed and wild-caught, I ate no animals that ate corn and soy so no chicken, no pork, and no turkey, and I also added in increased amounts of fructooligosaccharides after going on a VLC version of the Paleo Diet (big mistake). What took me a few years to realize was that at the root of all of my diseases and symptoms, I had one glaring disorder that had gone unchecked: gut dysbiosis. What I did to resolve that finally you’ll never believe, but it was something called a fecal transplant. If you have rendered specific species of beneficial bacteria in your body extant, then no amount of eating a grain-free diet can bring them back to life. I had to resolve that. Then, eating nothing but wild-caught fish and orange juice took me the rest of the way. And from 105 to 155, where I stayed for three years unable to budge despite my calorie-deficit, VLC, animal protein only, zero fruits, zero nuts, etc. experiments, I finally got back down to 107.
“Following a cardiac diet can help you lose weight, lower your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels,” says Kelly. “It can even boost your energy because of your healthier food choices.” Results vary from person to person, explains Dr. Lichtenstein, since they depend on a variety of factors, including what you were eating before you went on a cardiac diet, your lifestyle choices (exercise and smoking) and other risk factors.
Savory Breakfast Muffins – Muffins don’t have to be sweet, and these use eggs as their main ingredients so it’s breakfast in muffin form. The best part is that they have the portability of a muffin, so you can grab one and go on your way without having to sit down to a formal breakfast. Toss one on a paper towel and you don’t even need a plate and you’ll have a napkin ready when you’re done.
The Best Paleo Brownies – Why settle for the rest when you can have the best? That’s right, brownies get the green light on Paleo! And not just any brownies, these brownies could be entered into a brownie bake-off and still come out on top.
