I suspected I was reacting to a particular food, besides gluten, but I couldn’t figure out what it was. I came across “The Virgin Diet Cookbook,” and found that this book is all about removing foods known to cause reactions, such as the eggs you mention, and then systematically testing your body to see what exactly you’re reacting to. I followed the specific Paleo version in the book and, I’m happy to say, I was finally able to drop the pounds. I even got rid of symptoms, such as itchiness and insomnia, I’ve had for years.

There are many types of fats, or more precisely fatty acids (FA’s). There are short chain, medium chain and long chain FA’s,then there are saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Our circulatory systems are water based, water and fat don’t mix (try it mix any oil with water shake it up and see if your would like your blood to look like this), so our body packages fat up into particles (lipoproteins) that are suspended in the blood, much like fine clay particles can be suspended in water. These are not free fatty acids that trigger the appetite control hormones. Short chain fats are not packaged this way and pass into the blood stream when consumed. Butter and cheese contain free short chain fatty acids that will help trigger the release of appetite hormones quickly.

I do find my weight loss slows down if my calories are too low. My breakfast this morning was 3 eggs scrambled in tablespoon of butter, Pan fried turkey and 1/4 cup of cheese on the eggs. It really was a large pile. (I know the cheese isn’t a great Paleo input but I was hard pressed to find calories. In the future I’ll add lots of fried greens and cabbage.

I had the same experience with Lexapro. I stayed on it for about 6 months and gained 30 pounds very quickly. I have not lost any of it despite trying various work out routines, including 6 months of training for long distance races. I’ve been on long term vegetable heavy paleo diets, I’ve done concurrent whole30’s, and nothing. I also don’t gain weight when I eat normally. I just stay the same. When I reduce carbs I lost a few pounds very quickly (water) and then flatline or even gain it back. It’s beyond frustrating.
If you want to lose weight it is important to really restrict carbs for the first few weeks to a month. If you are doing the 70/30 rule your body doesn’t have the opportunity to switch into the fat burning mode. You body knows that you will eventually feed it carbs for energy. Give it a strict two weeks and you will most likely squash the carb crave and the pounds will drop off.

Diet diary: I was naughty in New York so as punishment I’ve decided to start from the beginning of the diet. Let the fasting begin again! So I had a day of eating nothing but a handful of veggies. How hard is it to pick up a head of broccoli and chow down? How hard is it to purchase a package of chicken breasts and put them on the grill? How easy would it be to just say “I don’t care about all of this stuff” and throw caution to the wind? It’s only as hard or as easy as you make it out to be. Not sure what point you’re really aiming to make here but you’re obviously not getting out of the article what was intended. Many people DO suffer from eating certain foods, and most people DO have at least one food intolerance, whether you do or not. Can you really argue that Paleo isn’t at least an option in defeating certain illnesses and combating disease in a healthy and positive manner?
