Gosh, there are many wonderful insights here. But perhaps a little bit of biochemistry MAY clarify. Chris talks about using Paleo for weight loss. Most ‘diets’ are for weight/fat loss and the use of the word ‘diet’ means so much more than fat-loss for eg. getting-healthier thru better food choices;. Excess fat (obesity) is only one (of several) indicators that something is wrong here and we say its our food. In Paleo-times people were without any way to preserve food for extended periods of time and their method of transport meant that food variety (beyond wild-foraged) was limited. So the present-use of the word ‘Paleo’ is-a-tongue-in-cheek-bow-to-what-our-ancestors-actually did eat.

As a result, we can go hog wild when it comes to eating wild hog, and therein lies the rub: When it comes to blasting belly fat, not all items on the paleo diet are created equal. Although eschewing processed foods is always a good idea, we’ve rounded up the best and worst paleo foods for beating back the bulge. Take heed, and you may end up looking at lean and fit as a Kalahari bushman. For more ways to uncover your abs, check out these 42 Ways to Lose 5 Inches of Belly Fat!

Eat eggs (organic) they are packed with nutrients for both you and baby and have protein to keep you full. avocado/guacamole. meat/salad or salmon/salad. just watch out for too much mercury from too much fish. sardines are great due to almost no mercury. dont be afraid of good fat food, they help in weight loss especially when carbs are low. no insulin pike will occur. but please eat eat eat. tell your husband to shut up and wait after baby has stopped breastfeeding. As you endeavor to lose weight, remember to be your own cheerleader. Practice self-care and reward yourself for building healthy habits. Above all, says Melton, “Don’t compare yourself to anyone else—even if that someone else is you (20 years ago, before you had kids and a career, etc.). Focus on looking forward and give yourself pep talks to stay motivated.”

Think of this plan as the Atkins Diet for vegetarians and vegans. It calls for 31 percent of daily calories to come from plant proteins, 43 percent from plant fats and 26 percent from carbs. Experts agree that the Eco-Atkins Diet is likely to spur significant weight loss during the first year; most followers drop about 2 pounds a week for a few months. On the downside, the plan is “too restrictive” to maintain for two years, one panelist said, and offers no built-in support to keep dieters on course.

The first step for making the process easier is to treat your body in a loving way from day one—instead of withholding positivity until you reach a specific number on the scale. That means ditching the judgy voice in your head and acting like your own best friend.

Cozy Home/Shutterstock”Elastic waistbands, oversized sweaters, and other loose clothing practically invite you to overeat,” says JJ Virgin, CNS, CHFS, author of the Sugar Impact Diet. Putting on your favorite fitted dress, tailored jacket, or skinny jeans will remind you of your goals. When you look hot, you feel hot, so you’ll think twice before grabbing seconds at dinner. Don’t have a killer outfit? Here’s how to find your personal style.

I’m with Missus. I’m thinking it’s the “3 day diet.” I used it to kick start things when I started Phen. I lost the promised 10 lb in 3 days. I have always been a BIG water drinker, so I know it wasn’t all water loss. Pretty boring though….don’t think I could do it long term. Good for quick loss though!

Have Protein at Every Meal and Snack. Adding a source of lean or low-fat protein to each meal and snack will help keep you feeling full longer so you’re less likely to overeat. Try low-fat yogurt, small portion of nuts, peanut butter, eggs, beans, or lean meats. Experts also recommend eating small, frequent meals and snacks (every 3-4 hours), to keep your blood sugar levels steady and to avoid overindulging.

Hi! It’s been a while since this post, so I hope you were successful. As a nurse, I had a few questions and concerns when I read this. Here is the thing- it is never a good idea to go “only” anything. You husband needs to first adapt to the lack of processed food and so forth. Add in more green vegetables(not iceberg lettuce) and the occasional whole fruit. He should cut back on his carbs in general, but as a diabetic, he should not eliminate them entirely, especially right at the beginning. This can be quite a shock to the system and can really mess up his blood sugar. I am actually surprised the doctor told him this, or maybe he misunderstood? An all protein diet is hard on many body systems, especially the kidneys, and a diabetic frequently already has compromised kidney function. What he should concentrate on is fiber rich, low sugar foods and a balanced plate. He also needs to increase his activity level. It might just mean getting up and walking around the house more at first, but I would definitely recommend weight training for diabetics and 20-30 minutes of cardio about twice a week, as this will address both insulin resistance and elevated cholesterol, which is also common in type 2 diabetics. I would encourage you to look at this as a marathon, not a sprint. Once his blood sugars and insulin levels even out, the weight loss will come more easily and quickly. That will take some time, so don’t give up!

(1) The departure from a calorie-centric approach to weight control means that a greater attention to the chemistry of food & the body will yield more lasting results. Understanding how the energy & nutrients and foods affect the balance of hormones in the body, replaces the obsession of “how much do I eat” with “what kinds of foods should i eat,” and many of the other beneficial effects follow from that shift.

Taco Salad – This version of taco salad is the perfect light lunch to keep you cruising after a hearty breakfast. No giant deep fried taco shell bowl for this salad, just plenty of romaine lettuce which turns a calorie and fat-laden taco salad into a light, fresh, and still delicious lunch option. Ground beef provides protein to keep you sustained right up to your afternoon snack.

at 5’9 I was weighing 137 lbs, I went on Paleo and quickly lost 12lbs without even trying. Now at 125 lbs I have to ensure I keep muscle mass so my BMI does not drop into an unhealthy weight..Perhaps a lot of it still has to do with genetics.

47 male. Cardio said my heart is slightly enlarged. I had high BP and cholesterol that required meds. No longer take them due to weight loss/lifestyle changes. Now both are normal. Will my heart decrease?

Yeah, that does seem rather aggressive, although the math works pretty good. 180 days at a 900 cal deficit divided by the standard 3300 cals per pound lost equals 49 pounds. For good measure I’m throwing in cutting out beer drinking which for an additional 3500 cals a week minimum.

I had a thyroidectomy in Oct 2013. I’m 45 and was told that I had hosimotos an autoimmune disease then a few weeks later told I had Hurthel cell cancer. I agreed to have my thyroid removed and found out weeks later that it was no cancerous. Now I’m dealing with extreme fatigue and I’ve gained approx 20 lbs since October. I’m afraid to step on the scale to see for sure. I use to run 5 and 10 km races and also run 1/2 marathons. Now it takes everything for me to get energy to do anything I just want to sleep. The doctors are playing the lets adjust your medication game and it could take awhile before they find the right dosage. Without a thyroid I basically have no metabolism which makes it very hard to lose weight. I’m hoping by cutting out all the bad carbs and sugars from my diet it will help build up some sort of energy for me. A friend from work was talking about the Paleo diet so I decided to do some research. It looks like something I could do . I’m looking forward to picking up your book later today, cleaning out my cupboards/ fridge and starting my new journey. 30 days to a cleaner healthier me 🙂
