Vegetable oils aren’t really made from vegetables, which is why we’re still really confused how they came upon that name. They are usually made from junk oils that really aren’t fit for human consumption. These oils are very high in omega-6 fatty acids, which promote inflammation (as opposed to omega-3 fatty acids which are anti-inflammatory). They are debatably one of the major causes of heart disease, and are basically junk oils. While saturated fat remains demonized by mainstream nutrition, it really isn’t the culprit in poor health. These omega-6, junky oils are far more devastating for long-term health.

I already do not eat gluten, dairy, and eggs due to food sensitivities and this January I weighed 135.4 at 5′-1.5″ and I decided to jump start the new year and my metabolism by being more strict and avoided all added sugar (which I rarely ate before but due to the holidays I slipped a bit). Also, I was eating more brown rice and sweet potatoes than normal so I wanted to avoid grains and starchy vegetables. I also monitored my snacking at night and to help me with with cravings and to curb hunger, I was taking PGX supplement before meals. By day 16, I was down 6.6 pounds. I got down to 7.4 pounds down by day 22 (128 pounds). I then had a 1-1.5 pound increase and continued to plateau until Day 37.
The “keep it simple” recommendation hits home for me. After a successful first year eating whole foods/paleo, weight started creeping back on. I *thought* I hadn’t changed anything, but then realized that my efforts to improve my culinary skills (scrumptious pan sauces, fancy soups and probably more added fats than needed) might be the culprit. Along with just too much food. I’m returning to how I did paleo-ish (I include cultured dairy) the first time around (more straightforward, easier food prep) and will reserve the fancy stuff for less frequent indulgences. I mean, indulgence does infer infrequency, right?

My weight 1 month ago 115Kgs, 28 days later 104kgs and dropping. (I think this has a lot to do with the no alcohol intake as well but still you will see differences in the 3rd and 4th week especially)
Woops, i hit “post comment” accidentally before i was done. So basically I was just trying to say that eating simple foods helps us get back in touch with the more organic aspects of food as nourishment. Don’t get me wrong, feasting (and drinking alcohol) as a way to connect with one’s community is wonderful, but that type of eating should have a more limited place in our lives. Eating hard boiled eggs and some raw carrots for breakfast (which is what I did), sounds boring, but when you start really enjoying pure food vs cuisine, it’s a good sign you’re getting back in balance. One thing I should add though: I’ve been eating very simple for the past 3 weeks, and losing weight. have, however, found myself eating a lot more often. I used to eat big complex salads or prepared meat and vegetable dishes. These were pretty high in fat, so I wouldn’t be hungry for a few hours. Eating simple tends to lower the overall fat content, so I find myself munching a lot more. It’s a little annoying, but keeping fruit and snackable veggies around helps a lot.
I agree with the “cut yourself some slack” advice. Your body is holding onto those 5lbs for a reason, and maybe because it needs them! I’d recommend sticking with the Paleo food you’ve been eating (obviously it’s working given the weight loss you’ve had) and adding more strength training to your exercise. You might not lose those 5lbs, but instead increase your “tone” which is probably what you really want anyway!
Where can I find this man ” Butter makes your pants fall off” ? My husband has just been told, he is borderline diabetic! 59 years old. And we BOTH need to make changes in our nutritional habits. Both of us are overweight !
I do not have much weight to lose (about 10 pounds ), and I wonder if to lose , I have to necessarily go low carb or low fat , or if I can have a balance of macronutrients. I enjoy fat AND carbohydrates. I do not eat meat , but eggs and fish . For breakfast I like eating fruits with lots of coconut milk or eggs with vegetables and potatoes ou fruit. For the over meal, I eat rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes or quinoa with avocado, plenty of vegetables and fruits, and, for dinner, some fish (I prefer fatty fish). I’m afraid to perturb my metabolism of I go on a low carb or a low fat diet, because I don’t have a lot of pound to lose. What do you think? 🙂
Hi, Im 23 years old, weigh 150 pounds Im on a diet almost for a month and I only lost 3 pounds. I dont know what Im doing wrong here is what Im eating. Morning,@ 8:00 a cup of soya milk (80cal) with a teaspoon of sugar. Noon,@12:30 one apple or kiwi. Evening,@4:00 on sun,tue,thur and sat I ate 2 piece of chicken breast with salad and on mon,wed, and fri I ate soup (the soup include corn carrot lentil corn strach cabbage). Night,@9:30 I ate 3 oranges with a small amount of chikpea. Im not sure what to do to lost atleast 15 pound and im breast feeding as well. Please help me what to do . Thanks in advance.

On my cheat day I don’t go crazy with the cake and ice cream, but I just eat the carbs I like the most. This Sunday I had oatmeal, bananas and raisins and a bagel for breakfast. For lunch I had a sandwich, and for dinner sushi.
This oversimplifies things because Fat is fat. If you are directly eating fat your body can still either use or store it as stored fat (bad by this articles logic). And it’s no different than a carb eventually turning into fat and being stored.

Co enzyme Q10: Many people take coenzyme q 10. There is insufficient data for me to recommend it. Niacin is used to lower cholesterol and raise HDL (“good”) cholesterol but, again, the data is mixed.
