I have Celiac Disease. I have to eat a gluten-free diet. No wheat, rye, barley, malt. I can eat fruit, vegetables, meat/seafood, veggies, anything NOT containing gluten. I do have options for gluten-free pasta. Is there a Paleo Diet Meal Plan that includes gluten-free foods and ingredients where I can eat right AND lose weight? If so, where can I find it? I have high blood pressure and need to lose weight, about 30 pounds, but most gluten-free foods contain so many calories and fat, and are expensive! Also, I want to do this safely. HELP!! I want to be foxy at 50!
I feel like I am stuck in a rut. My weight has plateaued and despite being as good as an angel (apart from my one cheat meal a week), my weight does not want to shift. It’s been hard keeping the faith, but I know that, with all the healthy eating I’m doing, my body will start losing this weight sooner or later.
I also think it’s more beneficial to track body composition instead of weight on the scale. Eating a high protein diet like paleo makes it easier for your body to create muscle. So while you’re losing fat and excess water from reducing inflammation, you could be gaining dense muscle which makes it look like you’re not losing enough weight. Even if you’re not really increasing your exercise, your body might have a tenancy to pack on muscle when given the right building blocks.
You really nailed it, in my opinion! I spent decades experimenting and researching nutritional paradigms and paths, and found that I feel best consuming a lower fat, higher carb diet. My hubby is the opposite. He thrives on lots of fat and protein, and of course still needs good cards for energy but never feels good when he eats the way that feels great for me. I see so many arguing the low fat versus low carb thing, I wish more realized that both are great, depending upon your own body, preference, etc. I also love your suggestions to lift heavy 2x per week and mix it up with other things. I like to lift 2-3x weekly and do Bikram (minus the heat) at home 2-3x times, such a nice balance. So “brava!” on another terrific article, very helpful and very wise. 😉
Are you showing signs you need to move more? On average, sedentary people take only 2,000 to 3,000 steps a day. Adding 2,000 steps will help you maintain your current weight and stop gaining weight; adding more than that will help you lose weight.

It works the same way in reverse, too: gain too much weight, and your body starts burning more and feeling less hungry. But this begs the question: if all these set point mechanisms are so effective, how does anyone ever get fat in the first place?
Keep stocked in your refrigerator or freezer a box of veggie burgers (look for low-sodium varieties). Veggie burgers are a much better choice for your waistline and heart than ground meat. Veggie patties have only about half the calories of regular red meat patties, and zero heart-hurting saturated fat. Plus, they’re so easy to cook – just one or two minutes in the microwave. While toasting your whole-wheat bun, take from your pantry a jar of roasted red bell peppers and top your veggie patty with a couple of luscious slices. Smear your bun with a little low-sodium Dijon mustard.
Here’s a hard truth: it’s not gonna happen! Most good things happen when you’re patient, and weight loss is a prime example. You have to work for it, and you have to wait for it. So, wait! Some people instant results within a week or two with a huge drop-off then they plateau. This is normal! The body drops a lot of water when you give up refined carbohydrates and processed foods.
I would argue that cutting processed food out of your diet is a smart move, though, no-matter-what, though. And training your body to burn fat as its primary nutrient source is also good. Cooking from whole foods is good. Avoiding severe blood glucose spikes is good. But just doing that is a way to get generally healthier, not necessarily a fool-proof weight-loss system.
What you guys have to remember is that you’re fourteen. It could just be a simple case of cutting out all junk food and making your meal portions a wee bit smaller which will make you lose weight. Your bodies are still developing so make sure you don’t cut out too much as you are going through a lot of growth and development at the moment.
