I’ve tried different diets to see what works best for me. It’s hard to do, to make yourself a science experiment. But what I feel is working best for me is to be very moderate with meat (and make sure it’s pasture raised, grass fed), somewhat moderate with eggs (again, pasture raised), moderate with high-sugar fruits (many more berries than bananas, for instance), very moderate w/ grains, less so w/ beans/legumes (soak them first) and abundant w/ veggies.
To my great shame, on my last day in New York, I used the excuse of needing to fill up the petrol tank on my rental car to get away from everyone. Then I drove to Carvel Ice Cream parlour and bought myself an ice cream sundae. My behaviour can only be explained as something like Gollum from Lord of the Rings. I ran back to my car with “my precious” sundae and felt so happy to devour it.

I’m on Day 8 and I’m out. I’ve lost 2 pounds, but I’m pretty sure that would have happened by just giving up sugary treats — I’ve more than made up the caloric difference in increased protein foods. My mood has been nasty, I’ve had headaches all week, my workouts have been hellish, and I’ve been absolutely obsesssed with food.

This does work. The only reason I gained it back was because of an injury to my back. I’m back on it, already down 5 pounds in 5 days. If you follow the diet and don’t cheat and don’t binge on the days off, you will lose it and keep it off. – 9/4/15
1. Canned foods are absolutely fine. No problem. All of my vegetables are either frozen (80%) or canned (20%). I’m a huge fan of canned tuna in water mixed with lentils and chopped onions. If you’re trying to gain muscular weight, just add durum-based macaroni to that and you’ll be set.
Really interesting to read this, Suz. A naturopath put me on the Paleo diet as I was feeling tired, run down and going through menopause. Over one year I put on 12 kgs! The naturopath kept on saying I would ‘balance out’ and start to lose weight but I stopped believing that.

Hi everyone.. I am getting a bit discouraged here since I feel like I am doing everything right and I am still struggling to lose weight and keep it off…I know these last 10 pounds are the hardest to lose but I am wondering if something else is to blame for the plateaus and recent weight increase after a weight loss.
Here are my concerns……I do not have acces to grain-fed meat: I absolutely do not have time to meal plan; I am not super crazy about fish (unless it’s trout that I have caught and cleaned myself); I have seriously bad ankles that will eventually require surgery. The excessive weight is really taking a toll on them but excersie is nearly impossible.
It is not nutritionally balanced and may cause long-term health problems in certain cases. In the early stages the diet is low in carbohydrates, fruit and vegetables, which may result in constipation, insomnia, bad breath and tiredness.”
I am also going into my 3rd week of the Paleo Reset and I have not lost 1lb. Super disappointed because I’ve followed it strictly. I feel good though.. I am 5’4 & weigh 125 and only only want to lose 5-10lbs but not losing anything any advice would be great!

A low-stress lifestyle may keep belly fat away, suggests research published in the journal Psychoneuroendocrinology. For a year, researchers from the University of California at San Francisco followed 61 healthy women; 33 were chronically stressed while the other 28 were not. All were asked to keep a record of their consumption of high sugar, high fat foods. Researchers found that eating these unhealthy foods frequently predicted metabolic risk, including a larger waistline, more belly fat, higher oxidative damage, and more insulin resistance—but only in the high-stress group. Women in the low-stress group who also ate a lot of high fat, high sugar foods did not experience the same negative metabolic effects.

Yes, there are some people out there who can just “eat whatever they want” on Paleo and still magically lose weight. But those people and you may have different appetite signals in your bodies (my own appetite is very demanding, and sometimes I have to have little sit down talks with it). Or your metabolisms may be different, or you may just be more genetically prone to having fat on your body than that other person. Whatever the case may be, the amount of food you eat – and I don’t care what other people say about calories and Paleo – will have a large effect on how… large… you are. I see it all the time.
