You will lose weight if your calorie intake is less than your suggested calorie intake. So just say that, when your suggested intake is 2000 calories and you eat 1500, it will mean that you are going to lose some weight. Exercise only speeds up the weight loss process, but it isn’t necessary.

As far as possible, avoid the consumption of junk foods and go for a natural diet. Processed foods like cakes, cookies, sodas, chips and fast foods are not good for our health. Since these synthetic foods are in a packaged form, they are usually in storage for long periods of time and hence, are extremely unhealthy. Excess consumption of these foods often leads to weight gain. So cut them out of your diet and look for healthier alternatives.

As I mentioned in the first article, one of the reasons why Paleo is so effective for weight loss is due to its ability to help you reduce calories without consciously restricting them. Studies have shown that eating simpler food leads to eating less, which in turn helps you shed pounds without effort.

Don’t believe the conventional wisdom that says you will have to suffer from this for your entire life OR that these issues can be solved by taking a pill. There is a very simple solution to these medical issues and that is get your hormones in balance. And you do that by changing your diet. If the issue is severe enough or impacts your life in a negative way, for instance not being able to get pregnant or being in constant pain, you will be fairly motivated to do something about it. A nutritional intervention is going to work way better than any pill. Plus it’s free and doesn’t have any negative side effects. I tried all the pills, trust me. They just don’t work. There is no easy way out of this one, you’re going to have to take a long, hard look at your diet and your life and make some changes.

“The first step toward weight loss is good health and hormone function. Start with 30 days of the basic framework — animal protein, fruits and vegetables, high-quality fats — then experiment to find the ideal version of paleo for YOU. Is it more carbs? A little more fat? Equal quantities of protein, carbs, and fat? Paleo isn’t about restriction; it’s not a diet with a capital-D. It’s about feeding your body the nutrients it needs to function well, and that optimal function will eventually lead to a happy, sustainable, peaceful weight for your body.”

fizkes/ShutterstockDrinking more water can help you feel full and eat less food, but if you’re really trying to lose weight, make sure yours is on ice. People who drank six cups of chilled water a day raised their resting metabolism by 12 percent, burning an extra 50 calories, according to a study published in the Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism. The body has to work harder to bring the water to a warmer temperature before digesting it, therefore burning more calories. Fifty calories may not seem like much but over time it can help you lose about five pounds a year, the researchers say.

Paleo did wonders for me for the first two years, then this last summer I noticed I was gaining weight regardless of how well I ate and the fact that I was working out regularly. I finally broke down and went back on Thyroid medication- I went off originally because I felt fine and thought my diet would suffice. Now I am feeling my energy come back- but this weight is still sticking. It is very frustrating! I am about to turn 40, but I refuse to believe that weight gain is inevitable.

Once you start ignoring rules on Paleo it becomes a slippery slope. Ignore enough of the guidelines and then you’re not really doing Paleo anymore, you’re doing something else that isn’t exactly Paleo, and won’t get you the same sort of results. But this isn’t the right mindset to get into. If you’re viewing Paleo from a shortage mentality, focusing on the things you can’t have, you’re bound to fail, as this is the Achilles heel to even the most effective diet plans. You have to have an abundance mentality and focus on the fact that on Paleo you can pretty much have whatever your heart’s desire, as long as you make it using Paleo-approved foods.

I wish you luck with your goals, don’t give up! Even if you don’t change the scale there are so many beneficial things going on inside your body that will make you HEALTHIER, which is more important that a number on a scale.

Breadie, If you’re ‘lean and fit’ (and don’t need to lose weight) and you think the Paleo way of eating is too restrictive…I’m wondering why you’re on this site…and as to your comment above about Paleo being restrictive if ‘you LOVE grains’ – the Vegan and Vegetarian diets would be ‘too restrictive’ to someone who likes to eat meat – so whats your point?

I want to comment on your crock pot chile recipe. I make practically this same recipe, ingredient for ingredient, but I do the whole thing on top of the stove and just let it simmer on low till much of the liquid evaporates or until I’m so hungry I just have to dig in. Also, I often have a bowl for a brunchy kind of thing by serving it with two eggs, sunny side up, on top. Sort of a huevos rancheros without the ranchero part. It’s really delish!

Just surfin’ and found this site. I wanted to post that I’ve been losing weight with no exercise since late January. Due to fibromyalgia, my pain levels skyrocket when I exercise and I end up in worse health than if I do nothing to begin with. Exercise is my nemesis! 😉 Since January, I’m down 11 pounds while still being able to eat the foods I like and prepare for my family. I use http://www.fitday.com to record my calorie intake (the key = be HONEST in recording your food intake…no matter how many mistakes you make!!!). Check it out…it’s awesome. You can do an online search to find calculators for learning your BMI, BMR, and the Harris-Benedict Equation. These calculators will tell you what you need to know. Losing weight with no exercise is a SLOW process…don’t get discouraged! It works though. This is the first time in my adult life that I’ve tried to lose weight and am succeeding. I’m 37 years old and now weigh 231 lbs. after losing 11 lbs.

I am60 years old- have had a weight problem all my life. I have been on Paleo for the past three months and lost 18 lbs. I am now at the same weight for the last month- up, down, up , down, and I am really getting upset. Every day I expect a big drop on the scale, but its just not there. What am I doing wrong? I don’t want to stop the way I am eating- I feel so much better- not tired, lots of energy. Help!!

Garlic Roasted Broccoli – Let’s tip things over to the veggie side of the scale with this killer broccoli recipe. Eating more broccoli is easy when it tastes this good, so keep some on hand and don’t be afraid to add it to any dinner that looks like it needs it. You’ll get a serving of fiber, which helps keep your digestive system moving.

A funny thing happens when you focus on making careful diet decisions. If you just “think” of your meal as a light choice, it can cause your brain to make more of the hormone ghrelin, reports a study from Yale University.

Exercise is a bit of a tough one. Some exercise (especially resistance training) can help speed up weight loss (and help you maintain muscle), but too much exercise can stress your body out too much and could potentially cause you to stall in your weight loss (or could cause you to get injured and therefore make you unable to do any exercise). Mark Sisson has a great rule that you should only do a max of 4,000 calories worth of exercise per week, which I think is good to stick to.

Unsweetened green tea is acceptable to drink, on occasion. If you’re sick and tired of drinking just water day in and day out, the occasional green tea is fine. Green tea has lots of antioxidants and 0 calories, which makes it fine to drink.

Exercise is key to most weight loss plans because it helps you burn more calories, and more calories burned equals more pounds lost. But what if you hate exercise? Is it required to lose weight? It certainly helps you stay healthier (by revving your heart rate and building your muscles.) But it is not mandatory. There are ways to lose pounds without exercising. Here’s how:

I am exactly the same Louise, I wish I can stop at just one cookie or a small handful of nuts 🙁 They are absolutely delicious and I am also small built but definitely know it when I put on some weight (easily) Thanks for the tips above, I think food control is really important and I am still trying to find a way to not over-eat on unhealthy or calorie dense food especially dried fruits and nuts (and I eat alot of coconut) I can go through a can of coconut milk a day. Do you reckon that is too much?

2. The pizza is from Pizza My Heart, based here in Nor-Cal (http://www.pizzamyheart.com/). It’s wonderful. Most small independent pizzerias should be able to help you customize a pizza, and you can always have chicken strips at home that you add on top for the finishing touch. Frozen chicken breasts from Safeway can be microwaved and cut in a matter of a few minutes.

You may want to eat a lower fat diet if you have suffered from undereating or overexercising in the past, if you have a thyroid issue, if you simply don’t seem to do well on a high fat diet (some people simply don’t have good genes for breaking down fat), or if you enjoy sweet more than savory foods.

Losing weight is a common new year’s resolution. Even when dressed up as a pledge to eat more healthily, it can be tinged with self-loathing. Those pigs in blankets, mince pies and Baileys. Why, oh why? But at least anyone who wants to improve their diet has a fantastic resource to help them. With perfect timing, a US panel of experts in diet, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and food psychology has scrutinised and ranked 40 diets. Its listings, which are produced annually, show diets are best for short- and long-term weight loss, which are easiest to follow, which you are most likely to stick with – and which are unsafe because they don’t supply enough nutrients.

Once you have a little bit of sugar, your body wants more. Now, my diet has disappeared completely and I have turned back to my favourite food: New York bagels, Reese’s Pieces, pizza, ranch dressing, chicken and chips.

“When going out for fast food, I used to get the large-size value meal. Now, I satisfy a craving by ordering just one item: a small order of fries or a six-piece box of chicken nuggets. So far, I’ve shaved off 16 pounds in seven weeks, and I’m on track to being thinner than my high school self for my 10-year reunion later this year.” —Miranda Jarrell, Birmingham, AL

I threw a little dinner party for a few of my friends this week, as I can’t really eat out in restaurants on this diet. I made grilled chicken, roasted butternut squash, salad, and mashed potatoes (OK, potato is not allowed on my diet, but I didn’t want to torture my guests too much). Everyone loved it. I might become a good cook after all!

In my point of view, I still like Fenfast 375 which helped me win in the process of losing weight. It can reduce a great deal of weight, which is from 15 to 20 pounds per month. Its price is also very reasonable and it has no side effects. That is the diet pills that I will recommend everyone to use. However, you can choose which one suitable for you. And if you can ask for your doctor’s opinion before buying one, it will be the safest way.

And yeah, counting calories–actually monitoring everything you can about what you’re putting into your body and how your body responds–is a *really* good idea! (But psst! “fewer” calories. 😉 They are notoriuosly counted, after all.)

Having a healthy breakfast supplies energy throughout the day and keeps you going. Although, in the sample diet plan we have suggested a breakfast of 2 rotis and paneer curry or brown bread upma or scrambled or boiled eggs and brown bread, there are several other breakfast ideas for losing weight that you can try out.

rawcaptured photography/ShutterstockCluttered, messy kitchens take a toll on your sanity and your waistline, according to a study published in Environment and Behavior. People who ate in a cluttered kitchen ate twice as many snacks as those who had cleaned up their space. And the effect was even worse for people who reported being under a lot of stress. When you’re having a hard day, doing chores may be last on your list, but if you’re trying to lose weight, it may be worth it to suck it up and do it. Bonus: Clean spoons for breakfast tomorrow! Paleo foods are just real foods. Food we have evolved to eat and properly digest. So if you don’t like paleo food, then you don’t like food. And being vegetarian is a personal choice unrelated to any medical condition. So get over your personal biases and eat real food.

  1. Now you know that this diet does work and what you need to do to get the full benefit. Be careful how you eat till the 27th, you don’t want to gain it back, especially knowing you’re doing it again in a couple of weeks.
Co enzyme Q10: Many people take coenzyme q 10. There is insufficient data for me to recommend it. Niacin is used to lower cholesterol and raise HDL (“good”) cholesterol but, again, the data is mixed. The recent “aim-high” study showed no benefit in pts adding it to a statin. Eating fish is beneficial. Taking fish oils may be helpful but remains unclear. Some people take garlic but there’s no proof of benefit. …Read more
That’s why the Paleo approach to weight loss is different. Instead of just trying to starve your body into submission, the goal is to fix the underlying problems. It’s about working with your body, not working against it.
You might feel silly, but it works. When Alan R. Hirsch, MD, neurological director of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, tried this with 3,000 volunteers, he found that the more frequently people sniffed, the less hungry they were and the more weight they lost—an average of 30 pounds each. One theory is that sniffing the food tricks the brain into thinking you’re actually eating it. Use these other tricks to become a more mindful eater.
