If you’re eating over 100g a day and you’re not really working out at all, then you may be getting too many carbs. If that’s the case, then you can start experimenting with eating fewer carbs – less fruit, sweet potatoes, Paleo sweets, non-Paleo sweets 😉 Too many carbs will quickly put extra fat on you if you’re not using those carbs up. Personally I’m convinced that the word ‘diet’ means ‘way of living” and “regular (daily) work”, so if you decided to keep your diet you must keep your way of living. So I follow simple rules the most important for me – drink a lot of water every day, eat healthy organic food and avoid fast-food. Pick up any diet book and it will claim to hold all the answers to successfully losing all the weight you want—and keeping it off. Some claim the key is to eat less and exercise more, others that low fat is the only way to go, while others prescribe cutting out carbs. So what should you believe?
My concern exactly is the time issue. How are we supposed to prepare all of this food in a timely fashion? If you follow this plan how are you also supposed to have a normal work day? Do you think once we have the hang of it that the preparation would be easier?
If you’re really tired, don’t work out hard that day, and go to sleep early. If you’re not hungry, don’t eat. If you’re done eating and there’s still food on your plate, push the plate away. If you feel weak, lethargic, have achy joints, headaches, feel unmotivated, anxious, depressed, or your athletic performance is waning, those are all signs of overtraining. The cure for overtraining is to stop training so much! 🙂
Intermittent fasting is not an overall reduction in calories, just a reduction in the frequency of meals. When intermittent fasting the faster should increase their portion sizes to compensate for the reduction in meals. One of the ideas is to improve your metabolic flexibility and allow your body to switch in an out of ketosis throughout the day.

I am on day two of Paleo and after reading the comments here I feel I must be doing something wrong. I have cut out most sources of carbs but still east fruit and sweet potato, I don’t feel hungry or tired at all (which is actually an improvement for me), in fact I feel full after every meal and haven’t found it difficult to stick to the diet. I run and gym at least 5 days a week anyway so I am continuing to exercise.

So true… Address your emotional issues without using food! Not judging, I had the same issue. With my program, my nutritionist tells me I can eat as much as I want, just not brown rice during dinner, and potatoes sparingly, eat by 7 or 8, but, the kicker is… I am satisfied like never before!
Don’t get me wrong — exercising at any time is good for you. But evening activity may be particularly beneficial because many people’s metabolism slows down toward the end of the day. 1. Canned foods are absolutely fine. No problem. All of my vegetables are either frozen (80%) or canned (20%). I’m a huge fan of canned tuna in water mixed with lentils and chopped onions. If you’re trying to gain muscular weight, just add durum-based macaroni to that and you’ll be set.
Sounds like it’s a good idea to cut calories. Everyone’s different, so I’d start experimenting. If you’re eating too little, you’ll soon realise. Calories do still matter – and feeling full all the time isn’t good. A lot of people also experiment with intermitant fasting – and don’t eat until they’re really hungry. Good luck!
There are many advantages to this kind of diet. While I have been on a somewhat more restrictive diet (bulletproof), the same principles apply. I wasn’t very overweight, but heavier than I had been in my life, about 180 pounds. Historically, I have lost weight by restricting caloric intake, especially fats, and exercising more. It has worked, but the weight slowly creeps back on. Since the birth of my second child, there was less time to make my usual adjustments so I gained about twenty pounds. On the paleo diet, it was very easy to lose 25 pounds. I never feel deprived. I can eat nuts, vegetables (drenched in butter), grass fed lamb and beef and fish as much as I desire. I feel better physically, I recover from exercise faster, my blood pressure has dropped and I sleep better. I really never though I would get my weight back down to 165, let alone 155. I also thought that giving up bread and cakes would be a real hardship. So far, it is not.
