A Paleo template should be based on a foundation of real food, instead of reincarnations of baked goods from the standard American diet. The popularity of sweets in our culture has resulted in a Paleo-sphere that is over-flowing with an abundance of delicious, mouth-watering dessert recipes. Although these treats are made with acceptable Paleo ingredients, they are not necessarily health-promoting or helpful to weight loss efforts. The energy-dense nut flours and large amounts of natural sugars that these treats contain can be detrimental to weight loss efforts and they leave less room for the consumption of nutrient-dense, whole foods that supply the body with nutrients that it needs. Treats can help to ease the transition to a Paleo lifestyle and it may be okay to enjoy them on an occasional basis. But if weight loss is your primary goal, you may want to consider how much of your diet is based on real food versus Paleo treats.

I have questions about the Paleo way of life if you can call it that or prefer the term diet I don’t know, but I cannot seem to locate a message board or discussion group. Only finding blogs. I know this works to lose weight, my boss who has a discussion board/support group for Paleo dieters or cave people as she calls it, but she pays $425 a month!!!! She’s a veterinarian, she can afford it. She started in February 2014 and by July had lost 52 pounds without exercising just occasional short walks. She takes no supplements. She has been taken off her diabetic medicine too UNREAL! I would’ve started at the same time she did, but I was pregnant then.

A study published in the Journal of Physiological Behavior found that we tend to eat more when we eat with other people, most likely because we spend more time at the table. But eating with your significant other or your family, and using table time for talking in between chewing, can help cut down on calories. Don’t miss these other tricks to start eating better in just one day.

It looks like making regular, sustainable dietary changes. It does not have to be a complete revamp of someone’s way of eating since that is not typically sustainable. But, in most cases, it has to involve dropping 300 or more calories per day; that can be done by dropping a couple sodas per day. People have to commit to this and prepare themselves—weight loss is a marathon and not a sprint. 

I’m not technically allowed to do high impact cardio exercise whilst I am following the Metabolic Balance diet. It has something to do with burning fat versus muscle. But after I have lost another 10kilos, I want to get moving again. I have a feeling my 40’s are going to be my best decade yet.

2) i was reading an earlier posts which stated that this diet may not work for people who are extremely overweight, which i am because i weigh 210lbs and am 5ft 11 inches. so should i continue the diet or not?

Going again back to our evolutionary history, we didn’t always have the luxury of going to a vending machine or drive-through window to pick up food. Sometimes we’d go all day long, or even days at a time, without finding any food. Luckily, we’re designed to use our excess fat stores as energy in these situations.

Evolving in a premodern food environment forced our bodies to adapt to an inconsistent food supply. We’re very good at storing fat, because for most of human history, our next meal was a lot further away than a trip to the Quickie Mart. Fat storage allowed us to stock up on food when it was available, and use those reserves during periods of scarcity. Calories obtained from fructose (found in sugary beverages such as soda and processed foods like doughnuts, muffins, and candy) are more likely to add to fat around your belly. Cutting back on sugary foods can mean a slimmer waistline as well as a lower risk of diabetes.

please be carefull if your breast feeding you need the calories and calcium that baby takes from you, depending on the age of your baby, remember that the baby weight took 9 months and may take a while to come off. keep breastfeeding and you will loose the fat. good luck

I am in the same situation. I tried Paleo and gained about 4 lbs in two weeks. I also felt awful and did not have the energy for my workouts. And don’t even ask about the lethargy and brain fog. It’s just not cut out for everyone, especially not with all that fat. When I use fat, it’s real and natural but I think some of us just do better with a lower fat diet.

This is so true! I use this diet to kick start a period of healthier eating. It is pretty low carb. I usually do keto eating afterwards, but I alternate days of very few carbs with “healthy carb days”, so my hormones don’t get too grumpy. 2-3 days of keto eating, then 1-2 days of healthy carbs. It works for me. It makes me get off of processed junkfood- no white flour and sugar. The soup is a great tool for anyone trying to eat keto. You can have as much of it as you want. The soup keeps for like a week, since it doesn’t have meat. It’s cheap, healthy and delicious.

Congrats to you for being lean and fit. If your diet works for you, then stick with it! But for people like me (and I’m finding many many people with the same issues as me, we just CAN’T eat the breads, the grains, and other foods that mimic the gluten response.

#6 “The Paleo Diet is too restrictive and I live like this.” This is the most valid criticism I personally have of the diet, as the best diet plan is the one you actually stick with and follow through on! The goal shouldn’t be to go “full paleo” for a few weeks only to go back to how you were eating before.

The mechanism involved in making this diet a success is essentially taken up by the combination of the foods that are included in it. These are designed in a systematic way, which can act as a combined strategy only.

If you’re trying to lose weight, as you probably do, a healthy person should consume at least 1,200 calories per day, regardless of what their diet is. If you eat 1,200 calories, you’ll have about 4,000 calories to burn a day to meet your goal.

You can find most of what you need to know online, but a book makes a handy reference. “The Paleo Diet,” for example, outlines basic Paleo principles and offers three “levels” that allow for different degrees of cheating – three “open meals” per week on the “entry level” plan, two on “maintenance” and just one on “maximal.” Depending on the level, you might also get “transitional” condiments (low-fat dressing and salsa) and drinks (coffee, beer or wine in moderation) to wash down the meat and plants. You can use the levels as you like. Start with the first and move gradually to the more restrictive – or just stay put. For more dramatic changes, head right to the third.
    Just finished your book, and I am happy to say I can endorse and recommend it to anyone in search of robust health. Being relatively lean and muscular, I was especially interested in the sections regarding athletic performance.
    Of course, if people would stop thinking of weight loss in terms of caloric restriction in the first place, this wouldn’t be such a problem. I do find my weight loss slows down if my calories are too low. Although I’m not sure it’s the caloric restriction causing the problem; rather, I don’t see how you’re going to get in all the nutrients you need every day when you’re not even eating enough food to meet your energy requirements.
    Research shows that a Paleo diet is more satiating per calorie than both a Mediterranean diet and a low-fat diet. That means it’s more filling for the same number of calories compared to other popular diet methods. This is crucial for weight loss, since it helps you eat less without fighting hunger or counting calories. As I mentioned before, if you’re constantly fighting hunger, your brain will respond by reducing your metabolic rate and increasing your appetite.
