Many people’s minds change when they realise living a healthy life goes beyond the ‘diet mentality.’ They shift into more permanent thinking as eating a real food diet becomes less restrictive, more enjoyable, and more second-nature. Weight loss is often a nice side effect when this happens. On the other hand, some people are prone to getting stuck and not seeing results because they’re still under the impression that the paleo diet is a “quick fix.” When we look at the bigger picture, we see bigger results and our bodies follow our thinking. I have questions about the Paleo way of life if you can call it that or prefer the term diet I don’t know, but I cannot seem to locate a message board or discussion group. Only finding blogs. I know this works to lose weight, my boss who has a discussion board/support group for Paleo dieters or cave people as she calls it, but she pays $425 a month!!!! She’s a veterinarian, she can afford it. She started in February 2014 and by July had lost 52 pounds without exercising just occasional short walks. She takes no supplements. She has been taken off her diabetic medicine too UNREAL! I would’ve started at the same time she did, but I was pregnant then.
Great article! I started on modified Paleo ( I still do a bit of cream and cheese ) 6 weeks ago while on vacation. I’m down 9 pounds and happy with the way I’m feeling. My appetite and, therefore, my portion sizes are half of what they were before.
Relative to chronic dieters, people who eat when they’re hungry and stop when they’re full are less likely to become overweight, maintain more stable weights over time and spend less time thinking about food. Mindful eating also helps people with eating disorders like binge eating learn to eat normally. Depending on the individual’s set point, mindful eating may reduce weight or it may not. 47 male. Cardio said my heart is slightly enlarged. I had high BP and cholesterol that required meds. No longer take them due to weight loss/lifestyle changes. Now both are normal. Will my heart decrease?
Some people who have weight problems but are borderline healthy will be able to tip the balance with some calorie and exercise but that is not really addressing what is broken in the body or if they are eating a lot of processed foods.
I have been on Paleo for 3 weeks now and I’ve only lost 4 pounds 🙁 I am spinning 3 times a week and doing boxfit 2 times a week. I still want to loose 26 pounds. Even though I feel better, I have to confess I’m a little bit desperate. Its been a very challenging lifestyle change and I’ve lost just a few pounds. I don’t know if I should limit my Paleo Desserts (I have 1 or 2 snacks a day) or eliminate them completely. HELP!
In general, eating Paleo means eating veggies, fruits, meats, fish, certain fats, nuts, and seeds. It means removing grains (breads, pastas, rice, etc), beans, soy, dairy, certain vegetable oils, and refined sugar from your diet. But you probably want more details than that, right?
The weight came off pretty rapidly, about 2 pounds a week until my weight reached the mid 150s. In the past several months it is pretty stable — it doesn’t shift a lot whether I exercise or not. In any case, those struggling with weight should forget about other diets that leave them starving and always lead back to the weight returning. This is the way to go.

Thank you so much for this article. I truly believe messages come to me when I most need them. I was feeling particularly down today about my results since going Paleo several months ago. What hit me most was what you said about exercising too much (and about eating 1,000 calories of cashews in a day — glad I am not alone!). As a six day a week exerciser I’m not sure I can go down to 3 days a week, but I will experiment for the next 30 days cutting down my workouts to 4x a week. Now, what to do with all that free time?

You’re still hungry because Paleo/Primal is not the holy grail that many make it out to be. I find that a lot of the stuff that the paleo community has to say is just fluff and often does more harm than good. What I will suggest is intermittent fasting.That’s the only way that I can stick with primal, is by fasting 16-18 hours a day. Although fasting helped me to solve the hunger issue, I’m still struggling with the lack of sleep part as well.
