Just surfin’ and found this site. I wanted to post that I’ve been losing weight with no exercise since late January. Due to fibromyalgia, my pain levels skyrocket when I exercise and I end up in worse health than if I do nothing to begin with. Exercise is my nemesis! 😉 Since January, I’m down 11 pounds while still being able to eat the foods I like and prepare for my family. I use http://www.fitday.com to record my calorie intake (the key = be HONEST in recording your food intake…no matter how many mistakes you make!!!). Check it out…it’s awesome. You can do an online search to find calculators for learning your BMI, BMR, and the Harris-Benedict Equation. These calculators will tell you what you need to know. Losing weight with no exercise is a SLOW process…don’t get discouraged! It works though. This is the first time in my adult life that I’ve tried to lose weight and am succeeding. I’m 37 years old and now weigh 231 lbs. after losing 11 lbs.

Exercise tips, first 3-4 days keep it to a minimal like just walking and your usual activities. Starting day 5 to 7, I highly recommend walking for 45 minutes extra of your normal activities. By day 5 to 7 your pot of soup should look low and just enough to finish through day 5 and 7.
A few thousand years ago, humans discovered farming, the agricultural revolution took off, and we advanced from hunter-gatherers to farmers. We settled down, formed societies, and the human race progressed to what we are today. Which is obviously great for a number of reasons (air conditioning! Nintendo! cars!)
Great info and it totally makes sense! I’m new to Paleo and am really trying to figure out how the breads, desserts, pancakes and other “treats” fit into my daily Paleo eating plan. I just want to maintain my weight (not trying to lose), keep my high level of energy (I run & do Pilates), stay healthy and enjoy life – and eating, of course!

The problem is to lose body fat, we need to be in what’s called a “calorie deficit” for an extended period of time. This means that the number of calories entering our body (i.e. what we eat and drink) have to be lower than the calories being used by our body (i.e. general metabolism and physical activity).
I loved this article! This question is something I ponder a lot and I think your responses are on target. How did you figure that out about beef? I’d never think that a type of meat could give me those symptoms.
Quick tip – Make eating meals boring: Eating the same meals over & over will cause you not to look forward to eating which will also eventually make you eat less & lose more weight. This guy lost 50 pounds on the ‘Boredom Diet’
Dieting alone is a horrible weight loss strategy because it is not effective. It requires more change than most people are capable of adjusting to. Exercise allows you to eat more while losing much more weight than dieting alone. Shortcuts such as dieting without exercise do not solve problems, but in many cases, make them worse.
I think it’s great that you are committing to the paleo lifestyle for bettering you and your family’s health. We are also just starting this journey. We have an 80/20 lifestyle right now for no processed foods, which I thought was a good step towards health but decided the paleo lifestyle, after a bunch of reading, was actually way healthier. The downer for us is dairy……we are committed to doing the paleo on an 80/20 scale also. We will do paleo 80% of the time and the no processed foods the other 20%. We are cutting processed foods out completely. Hope your journey goes well and you can always look me up on FB if you have it and we can help support each other. I don’t know to many people personally that agree with my way of eating so therefore online friends are my go to for helping the motivation. 🙂

Love your article. I’ve personally lost 27 pounds and am down to my ideal weight. Pale / Crossfit. You’re right at the beginning, I ate a little too many calories and didn’t lose a thing. Once I regulated my amount, but increased the times I ate in a day. Then the weight fell off.
