Woops, i hit “post comment” accidentally before i was done. So basically I was just trying to say that eating simple foods helps us get back in touch with the more organic aspects of food as nourishment. Don’t get me wrong, feasting (and drinking alcohol) as a way to connect with one’s community is wonderful, but that type of eating should have a more limited place in our lives. Eating hard boiled eggs and some raw carrots for breakfast (which is what I did), sounds boring, but when you start really enjoying pure food vs cuisine, it’s a good sign you’re getting back in balance. One thing I should add though: I’ve been eating very simple for the past 3 weeks, and losing weight. I have, however, found myself eating a lot more often. I used to eat big complex salads or prepared meat and vegetable dishes. These were pretty high in fat, so I wouldn’t be hungry for a few hours. Eating simple tends to lower the overall fat content, so I find myself munching a lot more. It’s a little annoying, but keeping fruit and snackable veggies around helps a lot.

(Before you get to the 2 steps, please understand this: You should exercise. It’s good for your body, mind, soul, spirit, chi and whatever other wacky things you can come up with. Exercise provides many more positive health benefits than just weight loss alone. Yes, even more than giving you “hot, sexy, toned arms and legs” and a “defined, chiseled, sculpted chest and abs.” Exercise is the complete opposite of a bad thing. Got that? Good.)

Hi! I wanted to ask you about using agave nectar as sweetener. I drink a lot of yerba mate, but, I can’t drink it without adding any sweet. I replaced sugar with agave nectar a while ago and it works great for me. Can I still use it while I am on your diet??

By lower carbohydrate I mean still approximately 100 grams of carbohydrate a day (and more if you are an athlete). It can be more than this. It can be slightly less. Good carbs to eat are fruits and starchy vegetables.

Body composition can change as well. You can meet people who are super fit but weigh more than you could think possible. Would you rather be healthy, fit and weigh more, or weigh less with fewer composition results? Keep up the great work Debbie! Consistency is key!

I’m not sure, Tammy. I suppose you could always try the workout for a couple weeks and judge for yourself? And be sure to refuel properly afterwards? I also think 4 days of strength workouts might be excessive, unless you are certain to exercise different muscle groups. You could always do her program but cut out one or two of the days each week?

What you need to pay attention to is the inches that you are losing. If you are working out and eating right and not losing much weight it is very likely that you are gaining muscle weight (which weighs more than fat) and losing inches. Body Fat is based off of your measurements not off of your weight.

My daughter had been after me to follow a Paleo eating style for GI issues. After seeing positive results with her change in her eating style, I gave it a try.
