Why try and pretend that Paleo is very easy for everyone? Some people are vegetarian and eat a lot of bread. This diet would be a nightmare for them. Be honest. Paleo is very restrictive, unless your diet already revolves around meat and little else.
So my daughter is helping me to change the way my husband and I eat. We each keep a journal of what we eat, but this is how we track it. 4-5 proteins, 1 fat, 2 carbs, 4 veggies, 2 fruits, 2 snacks, 1 condiment, 1 dairy, and 8 12oz glasses of water. You must follow portion amounts. We started 9/1/14 and I have lost 25 lbs in about 6 weeks. We plan our meals for the week and make our shopping list. Remember to shop on the outer parts of the store. We don’t buy processed foods. We prep our food on Sunday and get lunches made up for the week. Example: baked or grilled chicken w/veggie or grilled turkey burger w/veggie. We use the frozen veggies. We might do eggs w/turkey sausage for breakfast. You always want to get your protein, veggies, fruit and water in every day. You want be hungry. Remember your fruit is not a snack. We use the snack baggies and do grapes, carrots, veggie chips, or almonds. The more prep you do, the better.. You don’t have to think about what to have. Everything is ready to grad. Ornish may be the same kind of “Scientist” as Ancel Keys – a man seeking proof of his ideas, rather than objective knowledge. Some “scientists” cherry pick the data to “proof”. It is a constant problem with fame and money involved.
Funny enough, the most weight loss I ever experienced was when I switched off the “SAD” (standard american diet) to Macrobiotics–about 15 years ago–giving sugar and dairy–and meat–but focusing on lots of grains and legumes. It’s strange to me that with THAT diet, I shed 25 pounds in a few months without trying…and yet, with Paleo, Nothing.

Do cross-training. Cross-training involves a range of different strength, endurance, and aerobic exercises that will work out many different parts of your body while generally keeping you from getting bored (which is a huge reason why people stop exercising). Cross-training regimes like Crossfit may not be the best at burning a lot of calories very quickly (they’re better at replacing fat with lean muscle), but it’s worth trying out. Who knows, you could find a new inspiration!
I can buy way more raw food than processed in a super market like costco and samclub etc because there is a very large profit margin on processed food. The local super markets like winn dixie and publix has very high mark ups on their food. If one is on low income, it pays to shop at more bulk places.
If you’re using all that extra free time that these devices are affording you to take long walks, ride your bike, or in some way regularly exercise—great. But let’s be realistic: Most of us are spending those hours sitting in a car or slouched in front of a computer or TV.
“Following a heart healthy—or cardiac—diet would be recommended to someone who has high blood pressure, high cholesterol or any other history of heart disease, or to someone who has a family history of heart disease,” explains Lauren Kelly, MS, RD, CDN and founder of Kelly Wellness in New York City.
The premise of the Paleo diet is to eat the same foods our pre-agricultural hunter-gatherer ancestors presumably ate: fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood, and nuts. Of course, no one was keeping food diaries back then, so there’s debate about exactly which foods are considered “Paleo” or not.
Eat as much as you like of the above food items. Just remember: keep it simple. Pick three or four meals and repeat them. Almost all restaurants can give you a salad or vegetables in place of french fries or potatoes. Surprisingly, I have found Mexican food, swapping out rice for vegetables, to be one of the cuisines most conducive to the “slow carb” diet.
