The truth, however, is that willpower is a pretty shabby pillar to lean for anyone. When it comes to the relationship between willpower and food, the work of Stanford food behaviorist Brian Wansink demonstrates that simple things like overly large plates, bowls and even utensils encourage overeating, as does serving food “family style” or watching TV. Oftentimes, we make these “mindless eating” mistakes without even thinking about it, and blame our lack of “willpower” when we find ourselves staring at the bottom of a bag of potato (or plantain) chips. A better strategy is to use this information to our advantage, and eliminate the need for willpower in the first place. By taking willpower out of the weight-loss equation, you also eliminate much of the shame and judgment that goes along with being overweight or obese. “Failing” is not a failure of you as a person; it is a systemic problem that can be fixed. Hi Addy, I started eating Paleo about a month ago, and I feel so much healthier. Everything you said just about sums up exactly what I’ve been doing. I don’t feel deprived of anything. My mentality is that I am doing this to live longer. I have lost weight (8lbs) without trying. Sometimes I will get cravings for something sweet so I’ll make my favorite snack: an apple (sliced) sautéed in butter with cinnamon. Yummy!

Nip temptation in the bud by getting rid of the ice cream, cookies, chips, and other junk food that’s now off-limits. Because out of sight, out of mind, right?
No offense but I always get a kick out of Vegans and Vegetarians that say Paleo is too restrictive. To me, a ‘meat-eater’, the vegetarian/vegan diet seems highly restrictive, much more so than athe Paleo diet. If you’re a Vegetarian and the Paleo diet doesn’t work for you, then you don’t have to eat that way – no one said we all have to eat the same way!

And good GRIEF stop trying to zero carb yourself into weight loss. I am exhausted reading about this. It is not going to work. It may for a while, then you will start to wonder what is wrong when it doesn’t work anymore and you feel awful. If you really want or need to do low carb, watch Phinney and Volek’s youtube video to be sure you haven’t missed all the important points in the book. A low carb diet should have plenty of vegetables, some low carb fruit, a little omega 3, some salted bone broth….unless you are living like, say, an Inuit eating the whole animal (yep, all of it, organs and all, some of it fermented too…) you should not be eating just meat and fat!
Still don’t think you can give up your sodas and mochaccinos? Then consider this: It’s been shown that when people consume a certain amount of calories, they’re more hungry and more likely to overeat at their next meal when those calories are in liquid rather than in solid form. Translation: If you eat a 200-calorie snack, you’ll be more satisfied afterward and eat less later than if you drink a 200-calorie beverage. I can’t really provide many suggestions without knowing what your daily intake of food looks like. It’s actually possible that you are under-eating and your body is holding on to the weight as a result. I know it sounds counter intuitive but that can often be the case. Otherwise, this could really be due to either your hormones or gut health, or both. I would really recommend seeing a functional medicine practitioner or naturopath and get some hormone testing done. You do have to take a little physical exercise along with this diet. However, do not go for heavy exercises as you will be short of energy in this duration. You can perform any mild exercise/s that suits your present fitness level.
So I’m currently losing following more traditional techniques of weight loss (with weekly success) and plan to switch to a more paleo diet once I reached my target weight as I do believe in the health principals of this way of eating.
