Also I find that I put on a little weight naturally in winter, and I think this is normal & healthy as we need more padding to keep us warm. I find everything going on here very troubling. In the promotional video from Coke’s group, linked to by the NYT, exercise scientist Steve Blair says we don’t know what is causing obesity and we need more research. That message is oversimplified and terribly misleading. We actually know a great deal about what leads to obesity. It’s not a great mystery. People are eating too and not exercising enough…that makes it inevitable that people will be obese. The group’s emphasis on physical activity is misleading based on what the data shows. There’s no data to support saying if you exercise for 30 minutes three times a week that this will take care of the problem. We have data refuting that.

I am myself a victim of cutting calories fast, and long term I suffer from severe heart problems. When I was young, I was running a lot just to cut weight big time – and the results are not very good after 8 years. Just stay active, do some cardio, get a trainer, visit a gym – keep it simple. Don’t take any chemicals to lose weight fast. Eat more veggies, but don’t forget about the meat too, since you have to maintain all your tissues, your muscles and vital elements in your body.
However, it is a very low calorie diet. It should not be followed for more than 12 weeks and people should seek their GP’s advice before starting. It can be very socially isolating and people may fear going back onto a normal diet afterwards as they are worried about re-gaining the weight.”
I have been on the paleo diet 3 weeks now. I lost 8 pounds the first two weeks. I have been exercising 6 days a week and just started training with a personal trainer with weight lifting and gained some weight back (muscle) that’s normal. Stick with it. I lost 5 pounds the first week.
Paleo did wonders for me for the first two years, then this last summer I noticed I was gaining weight regardless of how well I ate and the fact that I was working out regularly. I finally broke down and went back on Thyroid medication- I went off originally because I felt fine and thought my diet would suffice. Now I am feeling my energy come back- but this weight is still sticking. It is very frustrating! I am about to turn 40, but I refuse to believe that weight gain is inevitable.
counter the effect of eating chocolate by eating more oil later? whoa! and you believe that? does he sell snake oil too? sorry but that assertion just blowed my mind in the wrong way 🙂 just after one thing like that I’d discard the guys credibility completely. anybody who needs to loose weight has to go off comfort foods (chocolate is healthy once you reach your target weight and not before – this is of course oversimplified and not completely true but easy to remember), has to eat only when hungry, stop when it tastes best (eat about 60% of what he thinks he would eat to be satisfied, drink a glass of water before every meal and chew very slowly and deliberately (give time for the brain to send the satiety signal. those who wolf food down tend to overeat). Why the 60% rule? Because an expanded stomach needs to contract and it won’t if filled to full volume all the time. It will if it isn’t. And a smaller stomach is easier to fill. That is why gastric bypass is so efficient. But it is also very painful, very dangerous and very expensive. The 60% rule is what I would choose (as a matter of fact I did).
Please take this into consideration. I began Paleo and was eating very good however, I could not lose weight for nothing. I soon found out I had 20 food sensitivities or allergies, when I stop eating those foods the weight fell off, the bloating disappeared and I felt much better.
The Paleo diet is what got me really started with losing weight. Before that I couldn’t keep a diet for more than 2 weeks because I was soooo hungry. Nobody should be forced to live on 1500 calories a day, it’s hell! With the paleo diet I could finally stick with something. And that is really what losing weight is about. It doesn’t matter how many lbs you can lose in a week if you gain it right after (because you are too hungry and emotionally drained). A diet that make you lose one pound a month but is super easy to keep forever seems much more effective to me. Not to say that the Paleo is like that. Once my body had adapted to it, it went plenty fast.
FYI I have tried the HCG – couldn’t get past the first day on that, done the BFL diet, The Atkins, The Nutrisystem of which only the BFL worked for me in the past but I didnt keep it up because of a back surgery which prevented me from lifting the weights. Now I am desperate to rid this excess fat and weight and look normal again!

I’m not going to lie. I spend a hell of a lot of time in the kitchen. So much so that I have set my laptop up on the kitchen counter so I can watch episodes of The Voice while I cook. I try to do as much work ahead of time as possible, for example, when I make dinner I usually make enough for 4 meals. Then I freeze the rest and can pull it out and defrost it another time.
