And if you lead your child to vegetarianism too (bad examples are catchy), you will do a lot of damage to him too. Don’t take my word for it but pls start investigating the pros and contras for yourself. I would recommend starting with Mark Sissons Primal Blueprint, then continue with Paul Jaminets Perfect Health Diet. From there, you will find your own path. You can’t fool nature, humans need meat. There is no vegetarian wild living tribe out there, no indigenous population that refuses to eat meat. Not one. And there is a very good reason for that. Period.

This week I flew to New York, my hometown, for a three-and-a-half week stay. I was having issues losing weight last year even though I thought I was being really good with my diet and avoided gluten, and dairy for example and mainly eating paleo. I’ve finally hit phase three of the Metabolic Balance diet, which is not that different from phase two apart from now I have a bigger list of food to choose from. It’s like Christmas! I’m free to add oil, broccoli, asparagus and pork to my repertoire and I’m allowed one “cheat” meal once a week of whatever food I want. Seriously, it’s crazy how satisfying a tablespoon of oil can be.

New to Paleo and loving all your comments and help, I have dropped 1kg in just over 2 weeks, still having my glass of red wine! I cut out bread and all grains and my beloved dairy (all except fetta, got to have that in my salad!) and have started walking a bit more regularly. I am a young 56 (looks so old when I see it in writing!), with the menopausal waist line, but not exceedingly overweight. For me it will be a 90/10 journey and I have found that keeping it simple, (after I had many purchased e-books) is the way to go. I said simple, not boring, I still try and minimise my animal fats and have reduced carbs. I alternate by breakfast, nuts and seeds with almond milk one day and then a ‘purple smoothie’ on another. Love salads with olive oil and balsamic dressing, and lean meats. I do snack on nuts if I get the urge, almonds, and not more than 10 and the really important thing……drink plenty of filtered water! I think only one person has mentioned hydration. You must keep your water intake up to help your body flush everything out, I have found this to be so important. Sometimes when you think you are hungry you are actually thirsty! I am happy with the way things are progressing and actually feel like I am doing my body a favour 🙂

It’s hard for me to stick with diets as well, for the fact that I have 4 kids. (exercise is hard because my youngest, 6month old, is very clingy and with back issues I can not work out holding her. 6 pounds in 3 weeks is great, and healthy. You will be more likely to KEEP it off. Everyone needs to remember that this is really a LIFE CHANGE. Once you reach your goals you don’t go back to old bad habits. If you do, the weight, and any issues you had because of it, will be back. Exercise is very important also. And you don’t have to have a gym membership. Just walking fast enough to get your heart rate up for 20-30 minutes a day is a great start.

Put into a soup pot 1 can of no-salt-added red beans (drained), 4 cups low-sodium vegetable juice like Knudsen’s Very Veggie Low-Sodium Juice, 2 to 3 teaspoons oregano or Italian-style seasoning, and 2 cups of any veggies you already have sitting in the refrigerator bin, such as carrots, celery, and onions. Breastfeeding made my body hold on to pregnancy weigh until my son was done nursing. He nursed for one year, and once he weaned himself, I started dropping weight like crazy. I gained ~60lbs during my pregnancy, lost 10-15lbs after the birth, and lost the rest after my son stopped nursing. Ironically, I was much less hungry and ate less whilst nursing than I did during the pregnancy, but still retained the weight. I think my body reacted to the lactation hormones in such a way that it was near-impossible to lose the weight until after I was done lactating. It took me about a year and a half to get back down to my normal weight of 115-120lbs.

Trust me, I’ve done this diet many times and experienced many different ways at first, thinking what’s the difference. Those early trials taught me to stick to the program and sequence of the original diet. Also, on this wepbage it doesn’t say to add spices, curry more specifically. Hi Maura. I find that when I don’t eat first thing in the morning, that I’m ok until lunch. When I would eat breakfast I’d get really hungry after I’d burned off the meal. When I was younger I was the fat girl in my school. It was when I moved out after high school that I saw there was more to life. I knew the one way I would get to enjoy that life was to lose weight first and foremost. To give myself some courage and confidence after having been the school chubby chub (which I completely imposed on myself, no glandular problems, eating disorders, jonah hill fetishes etc.). So I remembered the Atkins diet and the kid on Bad News Bears that carried around a baggy of bacon and thought I could do that too. Fat girls love bacon you know. I dropped like 20 pounds in the first few weeks. But then I plateaued and knew that 8 lbs of what I lost was water weight that would return right whenever I ate some carbohydrates again.

With a lap band, sometimes volume of food is a problem. How important is it to eat a food from all three groups-protein, legumes, veggies- at every meal. Sometimes i’m doing well to get 2 of the groups consumed. Weight loss is going well, about 15 pounds in 3 weeks. Have had at least 1 person daily comment about my weightloss. Of the 3 groups, which is better to leave out or should I alternate leaving out veggies and legumes every other meal. Don’t think it would be wise to leave out protein. Oh, I never get hungary, is it ok to skip a meal. Lunch or dinner I can skip occasionaly, but I never skip breakfast even tho breakfast is the most difficult meal to eat due to the lapband. This is not to say that long/slow cardio can’t be part of an overall training plan (it most certainly can!), but it is to say that it cannot be the sole tool in the training modality toolbox. To drop bodyfat, a serious resistance training regimen has to be the cornerstone modality.”

When you’re hungry, grabbing a piece of fruit is easy—no cooking is required. “Fruits are naturally sweet, high in fiber, and full of hydration,” says Wein. “If you fill up on fruits, you’ll be less likely to want to eat other foods.” Raw vegetables can have the same effect.

However, the diet is based on a misinterpretation of the science and there is no evidence behind it. The body regulates your pH within a tight range and your diet is not going to significantly alter that.

We all have autoimmune issues with our skin and digestive tracts, so being flexible with the paleo diet really isn’t an option, unless we all want to be sick. We eat rice daily and dairy and corn on occasion, but we stick to a very strict no wheat policy and no nightshades. The kids are too young to understand that they can’t eat certain things, so things like birthday parties and celebrations at their daycare haven’t really been an option. As they get older, we’ll tell them that certain foods are going to cause a reaction in them and leave it up to them to decide, but we won’t have those foods in the house. We also don’t eat out at restaurants at all. It’s incredibly difficult not having the luxury of just ordering pizza on nights when I’m exhausted, but we feel so much better having gluten-free pizza that we make ourselves once every couple of months and it becomes a celebration for us.

But, if you’re thinking that adopting a vegan diet will automatically lead to weight loss and soaring energy levels , you should know that it’s actually much more complicated than that. Experts say that while people can lose weight on a vegan diet, it’s not a guarantee. If your goal is to lose weight, food isn’t the only factor to consider. Things like exercise, sleep, stress, and health conditions all play a part, and the weight-loss process can vary greatly from person to person.

Snacking may be appropriate when there is more than five or six between your meals. Sometimes, going for long periods of time without eating may make it harder for you to stick to your planned meal or portion sizes as you may be overly hungry.[10]

Well, the most likely cause of this is, you have been totally accustomed to consuming excess calories daily. And now, you embarked on a rapid weight loss program where, the calories taken in are obviously very low. Just persevere and you will be fine! Do not give up!

I have no consequences, I’m lean and fit and have plenty of energy for workouts. My complaint with the articles is that it claims Paleo is easy and natural for everybody and that is just not the case.

Figure out your underlying issues by taking stock of your body. What symptoms do you experience? When? For how long?  How long have you had them? Take your answers to google and to the doctor. Get some tests done. Paleo is fantastic for healing, but a more targeted approach can help heal you all the faster.

I am hungry all the time and want to snack a lot. In order for me to stick with a diet, I need an exact meal by meal plan. I started paleo 3 weeks ago, high fat, low carb, moderate protein. In these 3 weeks I have lost and gained the same 5 lbs and today weigh what I weighed 3 weeks ago. I have had my thyroid checked as well as a basic blood panel and everything was normal. I suspect the high fat is the culprit. The reason Is because about 6 months ago I tried the Dukan diet which is basically low fat, all meat. I lost about 30lbs in 5 weeks. (Which I gained back after going back to junk food)

I’m afraid to step on the scale to see for sure. I use to run 5 and 10 km races and also run 1/2 marathons. Now it takes everything for me to get energy to do anything I just want to sleep. The doctors are playing the lets adjust your medication game and it could take awhile before they find the right dosage. Without a thyroid I basically have no metabolism which makes it very hard to lose weight. I’m hoping by cutting out all the bad carbs and sugars from my diet it will help build up some sort of energy for me.
