Still, some good points, or rather, reminders. I should get back into having legumes and specifically, lentil curries more often – I really do love dhal, and that used to be my major protein source, second only to rice for calories, although since I’m not _really_ trying to diet, I’ll stick with brown rice with curries. Or save it for after workouts? Hmmmm…
Eat Breakfast Day. One habit that’s common to many people who have lost weight and kept it off is eating breakfast every day. “Many people think skipping breakfast is a great way to cut calories, but they usually end up eating more throughout the day, says Elizabeth Ward, MS, RD, author of The Pocket Idiot’s Guide to the New Food Pyramids. “Studies show people who eat breakfast have lower BMIs than breakfast-skippers and perform better, whether at school or in the boardroom.” Try a bowl of whole-grain cereal topped with fruit and low-fat dairy for a quick and nutritious start to your day.
You most certainly can! All you have to do is eat enough food. Make sure you’re eating enough fat from healthy sources such as coconut oil, avocado oil and olive oil as well as nuts and seeds. Eat plenty of high quality protein and enough starchy carbs such as potatoes, plantains, winter squash and parsnips, to maintain your weight. Here’s an article that goes into more detail, http://www.paleoplan.com/2011/03-23/qa-gaining-weight-on-paleo/.
The 3 Day Cardiac Diet is based on the principle of restricting the daily intake of calories and nutrients. Though the human body can handle a fast for 3 days, it is certainly not a long term solution to weight loss. Drinking six to eight cups of water a day is strictly advised as it speeds up digestion. A diet plan for the 3 day cardiac diet schedule is given below. The menu can be altered with equally competent low-calorie foods but care should be taken to restrict calorie intake to the prescribed level, everyday.
so sorry to dig up an old thread but the reason I am searching is because I am taking graduate biochemistry courses in school right now and one thing I learned is the niacin inhibits hormone sensitive lipase. Given that my current goal is to lose body fat and that is the enzyme that breaks down fat in adipose tissue for energy mobilization, I searched into google “Niacin bad for fat loss” and came across this page. I am a fan of yours and read the 4 hour body already but I don’t understand how Niacin helps in fat loss if in inhibits HSL, could you please explain?
Diet diary: I have tried hard to stay on track but, bit by bit, sugar has started making it’s way back into my diet. At first it was just in the honey mustard dressing and balsamic vinegar I put on my salads. Then it was just a few pieces of bread. On my one cheat day per week I have been having Oreo milkshakes and pizza.
I was diagnosed with RA as well at age 32. We just lost a full term pregnancy as well due to a complication of identical twins and I don’t want to go on meds due to the toxicity to the body for when we start trying to conceive. I was in a horrible flare right after pregnancy and now (3.5 months later) with all the diet modifications I am doing much better. Still very stiff in the morning and after sitting. But actually just start as well and have seen results. I am making bone broth as well. Dr Mercola speaks of great benefits for RA. This is really a life overhaul going gluten, grain, dairy and soy free. I am walking though so that is improvement!
I understand completely how you feel ! I gained some weight rapidly from prednisone and being immobile for one month during the holidays. I was terrified and have changed my exercise and eating plan entirely. I lost fifteen pounds sticking to no grains, dairy, or sugar. I still want to lose ten pounds because of a personal goal to get to my pre pregnancy weight. It is tough but I have pretty strong will power I just have to remind myself to eat healthy fats. It’s too easy for me to starve. I was anorexic years ago so it has been challenging to stay balanced and focus on the positive side. Best of luck

I noticed weight gain at the beginning but that is a tip off that it was working. This will scare people. Most people will stop it and give up because their weight scale tells them it’s not working. Some things require time.
This principle involves eating low-energy-dense foods and can help you lose weight by feeling full on fewer calories. Healthy choices in each of the other food groups in moderate amounts make up the rest of the pyramid — including whole-grain carbohydrates, lean sources of protein such as legumes, fish and low-fat dairy, and heart-healthy unsaturated fats.
Although it’s very possible to lose weight without going to the gym or working out regularly, there are definitely benefits of being moderately active. Even by simply increasing baseline activity, you may notice more weight loss, improved mood, or increased energy.
Carbohydrates are also a source of energy. But that doesn’t mean you keep taking sugary foods as they are high in calories as well. To add carbohydrates you need to take it from unrefined and complex carbs such as fruit, whole grains, and non-starchy vegetables. It maintains a healthy weight and stabilizes blood sugar.
Diet diary: Despite looking in five food shops, I couldn’t find the particular rye bread that Petronella recommended I eat for breakfast. Not knowing what to do meant I quickly I fell into old habits and started skipping breakfast all together.
