I am exactly the same Louise, I wish I can stop at just one cookie or a small handful of nuts 🙁 They are absolutely delicious and I am also small built but definitely know it when I put on some weight (easily) Thanks for the tips above, I think food control is really important and I am still trying to find a way to not over-eat on unhealthy or calorie dense food especially dried fruits and nuts (and I eat alot of coconut) I can go through a can of coconut milk a day. Not trying to be anti-paleo – I’ll probably try that some day too. But for now, I was just way too intrigued by a diet that seems geared toward anti-depressant weight loss. It’s different than basic weight gain.

Victoria, in my opinion, it seems that you are consuming too few vegetables, and too much fat. So far actually enjoying the diet. Need to know the minimum amount of food I can eat in the am. I have a lapband and mornings seem to be the most difficult time to eat. Does anyone have a shopping list for all of this? all 14 days worth all in one shopping list. Would rather buy it all in bulk in one single trip and then I can take advantage of any multi-buy offers if needed – I keep seeing list after list of daily plans but no shopping list, I have to go through it all and spend hours to find each ingredient amount into a spreadsheet and add it all together and buy the corresponding pack of each thing to the right size as required – often realising that it will cost me more than £200 a month just for the food and then refuse to do the diet because of the cost, for the unemployed this is way too expensive.

Avoid surroundings where you know you’re tempted to make poor food choices. Everyone has a time when we’re most likely to overeat, whether it’s the morning coffee break or after-work gathering with friends. Try to plan other activities or distractions for those times, or plan in advance how you’re going to handle them and stick to it.

My breakfast this morning was 3 eggs scrambled in tablespoon of butter, Pan fried turkey and 1/4 cup of cheese on the eggs. It really was a large pile. (I know the cheese isn’t a great Paleo input but I was hard pressed to find calories. In the future I’ll add lots of fried greens and cabbage.

nuts are very very fattening simply because they are so easy to eat too many off. I’ve had to ban them, as I can’t control my eating, so easier to just not have them. Also, the concept of ‘weight’ is very old fashioned. The thing to measure is waist. Forget scales. You can build muscle and lose ‘fat’ and that’s what’s important here. The more muscle the better for your health. WE are still to ‘weight’ focussed rather than just seeing if our clothes are fitting better or measuring waist. chuck the scales out, eat healthily, don’t worry. Building a better body takes time. I don’t know what country you are writing this from, but go to a doctor and have those tests hormone/parasites/etc, I respect the right of people to spend their money where they like, but seriously, science has more than amply discredited things like kinesiology and iridology, but naturopathic schools are still teaching them. So I’d go to a doctor or a dietician if you are keeping a good exercise and food intake diary and are not losing weight, it’s normally just too much food and a requirement for longer kind of exercise (five hour walking through bush kind of thing). By the way, science means that you can duplicate and effect to control for a placebo effect, unfortunately many dodgy ‘evidence’ is still using in vitro or in vivo, but not human studies.

Get a pedometer. A pedometer will keep track of the number of steps you take during the day, and you can hide it on your hip so that no one can see it. A good pedometer will convert the number of steps taken into calories burned. They’re worth it!

theres nothing wrong if you only weigh 125 pounds! 🙂 I think your diet is fine minus the 3 oranges at night… although a citrus fruit they tend to be super high in sugar… To me it seems like maybe you shd just add a little cardio to your plan since your still unhappy with your weight (which happens to be a number I myself would turn sideways and disappear if obtained lol) it shd do the trick.

If you’re eating paleo, snack time probably looks a little different. While you might not be cozying up on the couch with a bag of pretzels, there are plenty of healthy foods that don’t lend themselves well to portion control.

Danielle – you may be experiencing what they call the carb-flu its basically your body detoxing from the carbs and sugar that we are no longer eating. How long have you tried eating this way? Usually the carb-flu will last about a week or so but for some it can take a couple of weeks before you start feeling really good – hard to deal with but is so worth it once you get over that hump! Another suggestion would be upping your fat intake and make sure you are getting plenty of sleep. research is showing more and more how very important the sleep aspect is for our health! The trick is to just buy enough so that you indulge and it’s gone. If you buy enough to feed a small village, it will be there when you wake up the next day, and you’re going to have trouble saying no. If you have some left over, throw it out before you go to bed. Put it underneath something slimy and disgusting in the garbage can so you’re not tempted to dig it out. Trust me, this is important.

Interesting your note about doing the butter/MCT oil coffee. I am paleo, and gluten free, and I enjoy the odd paleo treat, I found that since I stared the bulletproof coffee I have put on 9 lbs. My diet is much like listed here, seems healty enough. I have stopped the coffee for now and zero treats, it seems to be working.

Switch to Lighter Alternatives. I have also modified the diet somewhat. For example I do not limit myself to the veggies that are recommended above… I eat a salad with oil and vinegar mainly. For my post workout meal I like to eat a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread, and a chocolate chip cookie (so I do crave it later) or some fruit (I really feel that fruits are vital to good nutrition… and I happen to really love mangos)and cottage cheese (all small proportions).

Certain studies have observed that when you feel sleepy, you tend to eat more. This is because sleep deprivation can cause increased production of ghrelin in the body. If you burn 2,500 calories per day and only eat 2,000, you have created a deficit of 500 calories per day. Hi! I have been on the paleo diet for almost a month now! I feel amazing! I do not have cravings. I really think it is a lifestyle change for me and one that I will keep! I am 57 years old and exercise 6 days a week. I swim 3 days a week and practice Bikram (Hot Yoga) 3 days a week. I feel fine when I am swimming but am not doing well in Yoga. Bikram is not new for me, I have been practicing for 7 years.

If dieting doesn’t work, what should we do instead? I recommend mindful eating — paying attention to signals of hunger and fullness, without judgment, to relearn how to eat only as much as the brain’s weight-regulation system commands.

Besides taking in nutrient-dense Paleo food, exercise is a vital part to obtaining optimal health. Having the correct type of workout has its importance in elevating metabolic rate and refining the total hormonal environment in your body. Doing little workout can lead to stagnation in weight loss* while doing too much work out is detrimental due to the body identifying it as a severe stressor. Just like described above, too much stressor can lead to increased cortisol levels and slow off the weight loss* process.

I am not eating any Paleo treats, I’m not particularly stressed, exercise is so-so (like it has always been), and I definitely do not have unrealistic goals. I did try different types of exercise over a longer time period but it didn’t change anything. Over the course of months, I have not lost a simple oz! I don’t eat any fruit and a very minimum of nuts. Loads of veggies, eggs, organic meats. I find it close to impossible to figure out my right combination of micronutrients as I am numb to any effects of changing my diet. I don’t feel any different – I’m not happier, more satisfied, in better harmony with myself etc. – I just don’t feel anything no matter how hard I try. Any suggestions?

I just thought of something else. You may already be aware, but whey protein is dairy…I know I was eating protein in shakes and wasn’t even considering that. Hemp protein, and pea protein are a good option I think to use.
