We live in a weight loss culture that exists primarily on the premise of unrealistic goals: cleanses, fasts, pills, miracle cures, etc, all intended to help us “get out bikini bodies” in 7 days or less. But real weight loss–or any type of body composition change–is a process. But if you’re taking the right steps (i.e. 1-4), eating real food, and ENJOYING the benefits, even if you’re not “there” yet (wherever “there” may be), then you’re on the right track.

You have to play with it, to find how your metabolism works, but, as I wrote in an earlier post, when I don’t eat on rising, I don’t develop my appetite until lunch time. I wonder, if you adapt to your first meal being at noon time, whether you could feel good. I know that eating first at noon wasn’t too hard; more just the feeling that I’m supposed to be eating or I’m cheating myself. It wasn’t hard to get past that. But that was me, and there is biochemical individuality, for sure.
This list is great but just an fun to those new or unfamiliar with Paleo, several of these recipes are not paleo. Rice, quinoa, brown sugar, vegetable oil and cheese are all ingredients that are not paleo. This list would be more aptly called Primal food plan. Delicious, yes, but paleo, no.

Thank you for this article. It was very timely for my spouse, who started eating “Paleo” with me a couple of months ago but wasn’t seeing the weight loss he was hoping for. I think he may have taken the “don’t count calories” aspect of ancestral nutrition a bit too far and went crazy eating avocado and tons of nuts. Even nutrient dense foods like that will put the weight on if consumed in excess.

You’ve hit the nail on the head with #10. Sometimes, for some people, it’s just a lot more complicated. You need and understanding professional to guide you through a lot of testing to get to the bottom of what’s not working. Don’t give up! I’m still on my journey but have learnt so much!

I am 55 and have been eating Paleo for 6 months. My initial weight loss occurred after 1 month. The change, which is most important to me, is how I feel… Healthier over all, energetic, more muscle and less fat. My hair and skin are much more youthful as well. I have seen gradual improvement, which I like. It takes some time, to undo the damage done by years of eating grains. And I feel grains are the major culprit in causing all the issues I had with my health.
Do this long enough, and eventually your brain will assume you’re starving (because to some extent, you are). Don’t blame yourself if you aren’t perfect. If you once fail at your attempt to curtail your overeating, it doesn’t mean you are a failure at weight control and that you should just give up. Accept that you made a poor choice, but don’t let that poor choice influence the rest of your meal plan. The same holds true with exercise. Skipping a few workouts doesn’t mean you can’t get back on track. Weight control does not involve making perfect choices all the time; rather it’s about attempting to make good health choices more often than poor ones.
Here’s the thing with this Diet. Its a great boost to get you back on track or lose weight fast. And that’s where people mess up. Do the week,but get on a fresh fruit and vegetable low salt,low sugar, low carb change of life way of eating. Diets are temporary and that’s what we seem to forget…
There are cases where some people have problems with their livers while taking CLA but that tends to be rare. We don’t know if they were on medications. Many people on medications will have a negative reaction to astaxanthin and other supplements. Some people do well with coconut oil but then their health gets worse and needs to stop. We don’t know why. It is just something to be aware of.
